Thanks everyone for being so helpful on my first two posts. My question is this;
If you yanked your 96 KA24DE motor out of the car and had a week or two to do some preventative work to it
A) What would you do?
2) In what order?
Maybe we can prioritize like
You'd be a complete idiot if you did not ---------------
You should probably -----------
It's a good if you have the money to -------------
It'd be awesome if you ------------
I'm in the situation (Kinda) and I'm probably looking only at advice from the top two choices. I tend to go overboard and I'm trying to reign myself in with this one.
First, LOL at your category titles.
Things I'd do, in order. I tend to group my items by what I would do if I was already changing out a part that allowed me access to a certain section. Like the oil pump, once you've decided to change that, might as well change everything you just removed and install new parts.
Oil pump
water pump
timing chain and tensioners
Since the pan is off...
Pull the crank
change the crank bearings, rod bearings...you can do this AND leave the pistons and rods installed if you don't wanna pull the head.
BUT if you pull the head, pull the pistons/rods
rering the pistons
run a ball hone through the cylinders
change the head gasket
change all the freeze plugs
Use all new hardware upon reassembly.
Also, change all the vacuum lines and take everything off the intake and clean it, then reassemble.
So basically do the first 3 things or a total rebuild.
