hey guyz,

just got back form SEMA and theres a new thing with motorex. it turns out that they have been doing really shady work on their legalizations of their skyline. from what i hear is that they have been selling half cut skylines and welding them back together. and other non-specific stuff. so now if you try to call them they say that there is no machanics working there any more.also from what i hear KEN also left because of this stuff. so they are going out of business and the government is suppose to auction off their skylines. in order to get one you must send it back to japan and have someone legalize it there and them send it back. i asked how much and the quote i got was around 17k +car and shipping. so the good news is that there is going to cheaper skylines. so now other shops are trying to get the info to leagalize skylines like sharks curcling a kill, lol. i hope this makes it easier to get those awsome cars here.

if this is a repost sorry.

Assuming that Motorex is no longer able to legalize Skylines, how can you get them legalized (for the US I assume) in Japan? If you're going all the way to Japan you might as well buy one there for less (no need to ship it there and back, plus deal with customs).

wait so it will be like just $17k for the car, or it will be like $17k for legalization, plus the cost of the car?

Sounds like it's $17k for the legalization. But I don't understand how that is any cheaper than Motorex was charging. It sounds like it's in the same ballpark.

And also, yeah, how are they going to legalize it in Japan? I don't think you have all your info straight. You can't make a car specify to U.S. regulations if it's in Japan.

And what does SEMA have to do with this? I was there too. Did they make a press conference of something that I missed?

nah i was hearing this from the D1 guys while we were in the pits. everyone there was talking about how their shops can now do it. i think something like the regulations were realeast to the public. and as for the legaliztion for the cars i was tlaking about the ones that they have in the states now.

My understanding is that all the Mrex sponsored cars have pulled their stickers from lack of funding (internet rumor)

I also know that all the of usual suspects that have been working at Mrex have left recently, and Hiroki _is_ half owner of Mrex. They have recently taken in several (read: 20+) more skylines for conversion and have yet to produce any significant number of skylines for street use.

This is old news and no one knows the future of motorex. As for the "monopoly" comments and comments on pricing... the pricing that is quoted in this thread is right in line with Mrex pricing anf therefore is not a very good arguement. The monopoly thing sux but It's not that big of a deal.. I'm getting over it more and more daily...

RB MOTORTING legalizes Skylines don't they? All in all thats interesting news. Motorex always seemed like a rip off to get a Skyline anyways.

How much of this is actually factual information?

And Josh, up until recently, as far as I've heard, Sean who owns RB, was having his skylines done by Motorex.

I had a friend who was from Indonesia and works for bosch, also some of his family or somthing work for Nissan corporate. He told me motorex is a rip off. From what he told me the hard part is not getting the sytline/S15 whatever into the U.S., but it's getting it out of Japan, they won't let much go unless its half cuts, and parts. His friend had an S15 that he U.S. legalized himself. He was pretty knowledgeable and I would believe him.

Or both! This guy in Chicago's Chinatown is the owner of a shop called Top Speed, one day I was just passing buy and his R34 was just parallel parked on the street and from what I hear, now he's driving around his cousin's S15.

screw that you can buy a Skyline in Japan for WAAAAY cheaper and ship it over here for waaay cheaper. Ship the engine in one container and the body in another. Pick them up and put humpty-dumpty back together again.

I'd slap on some maxima badges and roll around in an "R33" converted Maxima

=] motorex... we were there last week picking up a couple cars that a former mechanic left there before... i'm not sure about the half cut skylines, they don't need to do that, they're legally eligible to import full skylines. But their jobs, i personally believe, are shady... i don't know whats going on but motorex isn't selling much skylines, they have like 30+ skylines sitting in the warehouse collecting dust, and theres a grey 33 and a white 33 outside chillin lol, there is literally almost no space in that warehouse. Blast motoring next door to motorex looks like they have 4-5 of them sitting on the hangers ^_^ but yea back to the point.... not sure if the half cut things are true, since they dont have to do that ^_^ unless import tax is less? possible reason they "could" be sending half cuts?

also, i seen a couple skylines @ CSUN with rbmotoring license frames, i also wondered if they legally get skylines, but someone said they just tune it? question though... howd they import the skyline? they cut it in half and weld it?

EDIT: also reading from the posts:You are paying around what? 30k for the skyline alone? and the 17k is for legalizing it, they actually send the car here i think THEN legalize it with DOT approved stuff, i believe, that is why the price is 50k for a legal skyline.
