Just a few questions regarding installation and use of the Motordyne spacer kit.

1. In the How To section on this forum, it states to use RTV to seal the spacer, however, it doesn't state that in the Motordyne instruction manual. Should RTV be used? Or should i just follow the motordyne instructions.

2. My plenum spacer kit comes with a coolant intake valve. What is the actual purpose for this?

Thanks much!Dan

I installed mine using the mfg's instructions and did not use any RTV. I have not have any problems using this method.

Installing and closing the coolant valve allows you to keep coolant from running through your throttle body, for more power. (The theory is that a cooler throttle body will not heat up the incoming air as much and produce more power)

In cold weather you turn the valve back on, so coolant flows through your TB. (Below a certain temp the TB gets stuck)

I'm actually installing mine tonight after work! I am going to use the RTV for my application. The spacer is machined to fit flush but I suspect without a sealant you could lose air. It's not all that different than pipe fitting a gas line at your house. The fit is steel on steel with a bit of thread sealant at the joints to keep the gas in. That of course is my opinion. I trust the posted instruction here as they are viewed and followed by many drivers. Tonight I am more concerened about not having a LB/IN torque wrench

Thanks for the replies.

What type of RTV works best?

RTV is not needed for the spacer install. If you decide to use it, be careful not to overdo it. Excess gunk could go into the intake track and cause problems. The Spacer is basically a thick gasket to separate the upper and lower plenums.

The coolant bypass helps keep the TB cooler, but you need to engage it during colder weather. It's a quick and easy mod.

Thanks Joe, so in your opinion should I pass on the RTV tonight during install? Also, I am going to use a 10mm hand held nut driver to remove/install the bolts. I don't have access to a LB/IN torque wrench although there are good instructions included w/motordyne spacer. Any suggestions?

Thanks!
