Motor Wont Stay Running

I just recently did a head job on my 89 240SX KA24e. I put everything back together, but now when you start it up it will fun for 10 sec. and then shut off. If you keep giving it gas it will stay running be barely and wants to die back down and shut off. Do you have any idea what this would be. I don not have the air intake tube hooked back on though, just to let you know of that, and the batter is dead and i was jumping it with a jumper pack, just wondering if that would make it keep shutting off. Any advice will help. Thanks.

You gotta have the intake tube hooked up because the MAF has to read the amount of air coming in.
