Ok, I have a 91 240sx and a SR. I just finished putting the motor back together and went to fire it up and its just whirring like i have a dead battery or something and wont actually fire up. I pulled the plugs and stuff to test for spark and all 4 plugs were black and wrank of fuel.. I did find that one coil pack was not fireing so i tried the same pack on a different plug and still didnt fire. Tried a working coil on the bad ones plug and it fired fine. Timing is all set by the book and its not backfiring at all. What could be causing this.. I know that the motor can run with one plug not firing. I know its not good to run it like that but it should still fire up which its not doing. Any help is greatly appreciated. PS anybody have a spare working coil that i can get for cheap. I really dont have much money left till i start my new job and I only have one car sooo.. You get the idea. Thanks

I have had the same problem, make sure the ecu harness is all the way in, push it in both side securely. Test your ignitor. Mine was dead on #3,4.

make sure u check fuel too, if its not the ignitor than its the ecu...if not that check the crank angle sensor but if ur getting clicks from the ignitor then the cas is good and the ignitor might be good most of the time in this situation it is the ecu... if u have spark, ignitor is good, ecu is good, cas is good and fuel.. check timing . u might be 180 degrees over... crank engine till Top dead center which is piston clostest to u is at TOP and crank mark is on 0... take ur CAS out line up the line and the dot of the right together..stick it back in. ..well i think that is it....haha... it is rarely u will find an sr20 tat will start up smooth at the first try! ^_^

Ok. I get spark on all but one of the coil packs and i have even switched that to a different plug to see if it was just that plug or the pack itself. The pack seems to be bad but that shouldnt stop it from starting. I pulled the fuel rail yesterday and none of the injectors are leaking or getting stuck open. As for the timing it was 180 degrees off before and i had to redo it. As for now though i had the motor set TDC , then aligned the cam gears then ligned up the marks on the cas by the book. I tried getting a code off the ecu but it just gave me the all clear (55). Im gonna pull it and put it back in to make sure there are no lose connections but im stumped at this point. BTW there is compression, not sure as to exact numbers but i had the coilpacks in with no spark plugs and not bolted in and turned it over to check the fule injectors and all 4 packs shot out in sequence. Thanks guys for the help

Also the only part replaced that wasnt stock were the lifters. I put in Tomei Solid lifters. Dont think that could cause a huge problem though. they were installed properly.

Try starting fluid, you might just need to give the engine a little bit of a bump to turn over.

Mine was doing the same crap, and it started the first turn on the fluid.

Also, you should use a fresh battery, or use a jump box to help the one you got.
