I'm thinking about buying a S13 with a ca18det motor in it. The car has been sitting for about a year without it being started. I went up there and the car had a dead battery. I switched it with my battery and it cranked a little but didn't start. We kept trying till it didn't crank at all. We thought it killed my battery so we tried jumping it. Still didn't crank. I'm a bit new at ca motors and I never seen a car suddenly stop cranking. So i was wondering if you guys maybe could point me in a right direction to look at? Do u guys think its the coil packs or maybe just its bad fuel? Its near empty and we put a little fuel in it to see put it still didn't crank. Any advice would be much appreciated.

It will still start with bad fuel and coilpacks. Spray some starter fluid into the intake manifold to see if thing is producing spark. Make sure that when you turn the key to on that you hear the fuel pump priming. That should start you off in the right direction.

Ok the fuel pump is working from what the guy told me. He says he thinks its just the battery. I don't really understand how it could just stop cranking when I put my battery in. Is it possible that just the battery has bad terminals? Thought it did work on my car. Any insight would be appreciated. The faster I can get this to run the better chances that I get it before someone else does.

P.S. if just so happens it does start what should I be looking for as far as major faults? I'm going to try and do a compression check. So is 140-150 a good medium? And what else should I be looking for? This is going to be my first modded car that i'm buying so i'm kinda clueless. Tried to do some research but came up with little info.

well get the battery checked, maybe yours was too weak ? + bad connections could make an ok battery too weak. when you try to crank do you still hear the starter solenoid even click? lights dim?

Yeah the starter solenoid clicks. And the lights dim. The thing is the battery is from a S14. So I figured it would be the same.

Well a car battery is pretty much a battery, I just meant too weak because you've drained it enough it can't turn the starter over. If the starter isn't properly lubed or seizing (might need a rebuild or such) then it might take more power to spin it... so even if it worked in another car, it might not work in this one.
