In the back of the new MT there's a small review on the J30's. They're labeling it a "power buy". Check it out if ya can.

There were a couple things they mentioned that I never knew.1) 93's had problems with cell phone reception. Something to do with the bose amps. First I"ve heard of that and I've not had any problems.2) The tail lights changed aparently at some point though I've yet to notice.3) The picture of the J30 looks like it has the bmw angel eyes. Is this just the light?

That's funny, becasue I just finished reading this article. I don't recall any taillight changes either. I guess I'll have to take more notice and see if there is a difference on newer ones. The headlights in the picture do resemble angel eyes. It must be the lighting. By the way, what color is that car in the picture? I never remember seeing a J that color. It looks like a bronze or a copper. I love it!

I'm thinking maybe the sun was lower in the sky in that picture. Like it was taken early morning or evening. Hense the strange color and the angel eye effect.

that's what i thought to. looks like a sunrise or sunset so it's probably playin tricks, but the angel eyes look good on it with the J's awesome headlights!

speaking of angel eyes....we could do those..but its likely not worth it. good to hear the J30 is getting some good press...too bad its coming on 10 years too late! i have heard about the tail-light thing too, but have yet to discern the two kinds..

also, didnt they add some sort of autodimming rearview mirror in the last year of two of production...? ive seen pictures with j30s with this, and i know mine is lacking this option.

I haven't seen the article yet but it is good that there is some notice of this very underrated beauty.

From what I understand, when the HICAS was dropped after 94 Nissan added the creature comforts for the 95 and subsequent years. My 95 has the auto dimming mirror, ajustable lumbar support, "redesigned" tail lights and two additional speakers. Some of the electrical gremlins were also ironed out. The only other things added during the run were a gadget to prevent the short cycle on off flooding bother and steel side impact beams in the 97.5 J.

I have six speakers as well if memory serves. Perhaps the 93s were the only Js with four.

i have a non-t 1994 model. the speaker upgrade from 4 to 6 must have been between 93/94, along with the bose change for the cell phone problems.

'93 J30t definitely only had 4 speakers with the Bose system.

One in each front door, and two in the rear deck.

Hey, could someone scan that magazine article and post a link if they get a chance ?

From what I can tell from the tail lights is that it was just a very subtile change, not in the shape or anything, but just the color and way INFINITI is written on it. I've notice an ever so slight difference from the 93,94 to the 96,97's.

I still miss mine! I miss the size and comfort of it compared to my Spec V (totally different in all ways).

You also probably have one of the safest cars on the road. A statement I can DEFINATELY vouch for!

I drove by an Infiniti dealer this past weekend with the wife to oogle over some of the new Infiniti's. Man, I really want a G35 coupe. They had them listed at 34K and change. Maybe in 4 or 5 years?!

I am interested in seeing how the new J30 distinguishes itself from the G35 -- which would seem to be, in fact, the new J30. The original J30 was the nifty sedan based on the Z car; and that describes the G35 of today.

The changes in the j30's included in 94 the addtion of the speakers in the windshield pillars, and the changed internal pattern on the taillights on the 95's. The moon-roof came in 96 or 97. It is now an almost 11-year old car, as they first came in to the showrooms in 92. I have a brochure that presents both my 92 M30 convertible and the 93 J30. And my 94 J30 has 128,000 miles, and has averaged 22.5 mpg over the past year.

That's an excellent angleof loking at it.I feel the J30 was still ever so slightlyupmarket fron were the G is now positioned but close enough to call the G35 it's descendant.

i think the M45 more closely fits into the J30's shoes, and unfortunatley may suffer the same fate.

M45?

The J30 was "middle-of-the-road" luxory made to go head-to-head with the ES300. Sadly, Lexus murdered it and that's why J's are such a great buy. I agree that the M45 may become the same sad story of a great car never getting the credit it deserves. But the M seems to be a little "higher class" than the J.

The J30 was meant to go up against the Lexus GS300, so it is pretty close to the M45 in market...

The M45 seems to be occupying the same place in the line up as the J did. It could have easily been called the J45 but the M designation seemed to be due back in the rotation. Keeping the times in mind, the current M seems equipped with a similar level of trim as the J of the early/mid 90s.

Actually, the J was a "one off" special project from a design studio in CA. Way too expensive to produce. So on that basis, the J was a little "higher class" model than the current M. Frankly, I'd love to drop that 4.5L into the J. :D

I don't know where the M45 stands. It seems to compete with the Q45 more than anything else.

The line up doesn't seem to have neat break down it used to. G20, J30, Q45. 4, 6, 8 cylinders. Would be cool if they could come up with a 6 that is a more substantial car than the G. Neither the M or the Q seem to be starting the world on fire, excellent cars that they are.

I think you get more used RWD V6 car for the money with a 1995 Mazda 929. However, how are parts prices on the J? Comparable to the Q?

Build quality on an Infiniti is superior to Mazda. the J is the best bang for your buck in the automotive world. I've driven a 929. J is nicer.

the j is unique,i dont think they could ever do justice with new models as a comparison.it is of its own.and that lexus 300 comparison is void to me.to many lexus owners seen my car and were amazed how nice they really are.in my book it walks all over them in style alone.they are sterile looking.when you see a j you know its a j.i like the way the g35 looks, the coupe.personally id like to tear apart a new z and see what i can do with it.i dont how one would compare a mazda to an infiniti.espesially the sedans.there sport car tho tears up tracks preety good.

Diamond, you're spot on with your assessment of the J vs the 300. The 300 is a nice car but the J is on another level.

i love the ****pit feel.i like the way the seats low enough to to reach straight ahead to shift, instead of most cars with the big box in the middle.makes me feel like im at the dinner table.not to many 4 doors i found can say that.it is a drivers car, believe that.
