1996 motors in decent condition are rare. Put it in Infiniti Parts Online forum.

96 is OBDII, 93 isn'tInjector rails and some harness connectors are different and would have to be swapped. It's doable, but I'd advise against it.

Is the issue more than time?

I have a 93 with timing chain guides that made the chain jump and bent the valves. If I get an older JDM I will have to do chain guides, if i fix this one it will be a very time consuming process and with gaskets, parts and all - not any cheaper.

The 96 is a few years newer and looks pretty clean but I dont want to bite off more than I can chew - I already have quit a mouthful!

Thanks for your help!

PS - If I decide to part out will parts be in demand?

I know a 94 or 95 into a 90-93 has been done and the posters encountered problems, but they were able to resolve/work through them.

The 96 may have different connectors since it's OBDII, but I dont' know for sure. My guess is you won't know for sure until you (or someone) tries.

Searching IOM may find some posts about the previous swaps.

The 90-93 and 94-95 AND 1996 all appear to have different cats. and precats.

Not sure if 1996 could be made to pass an emission syno test which would be required of a pre obd2 VIN and body/registration.

All the extra add on wiring for extra O2.ecu swap.

You will need to check with state emission referee as to how they would test your car?

Thanks for the help. Florida seems to be real lax on emission but I will check.

I am beginning to think a rebuild may be the best option. Do you know if there is a rebuild kit that includes internals?

Rebuilding a used 90-96 is never a good solution because of the structural damage to valve guides [from carrying a bent valve stem] or trying to get the heads re torqued correctly..................I would replace all head bolts if a head was ever removed.

Buy a great JDM takeout [physically go the seller loaction] and examine to get a great one. Replace the chain guides and oil chain....easy on an engine stand.

Impossible for the finest US technican to recreate the exacting tolerances of a Japan built early 90 Q you just cannot measure all the parameters and locate the correct bearing, ring, piston, in every needed size nore camn you bore the cylinder even on a $30,000 machine to perfection like the oem did.

You go thru all the effort and end up with a less precise [oil use] or weaker BMEP than just a used JDM.
