My 97 Q45 has a little more than 230000 miles on it and to be safe I would want to know generally how hard/possible it is to swap these engine/trans combos into my car. Now i know most of these are going to take some work to make fit i.e. motor mounts, drive shaft, trans mount, ECU work, just wondering.

new-ish VH41DE with Z32 5-speed
new-ish VH41DE with some sort of low boost turbo set up with either stock auto trans or Z32 5-speed
VH45DE with a Z32 5-speed
VQ30DET with either stock auto or whatever manual trans that goes with this motor (if there is one)
RB25DET with skyline 5-speed
VK56 with Z33 6-speed

and also if any of you have motor swapped their Y33 let me know what you did.

Sadly these cars aren't really worth putting too much effort or money into although a vk56 with cd009 would be awesome. I would say sell the Q and get a z32 and put the work in that. Short of that I would change out the drivetrain with stock as needed and just drive it. Best of luck in whichever direction you choose.

I believe the VH41 and VH45 mounts are almost the same... If I ever got a Y33 I would definitely put a VH45 with a Z32 5 speed in it.. The VK45 isn't really that much that better than the VH45, and way more expensive and no MT's easily mount to it.

This is all wrong info.

The VH41 and VH45 mounts aren't even close to each other. These are pictures of 41 vs 45 mounts from my 94 and my room mates 97 Qs.

Also, the VK45 uses the VH45 adapter plate so any plate made for a VH45 will work on the VK45.

Thanks for clearing that up Mike. I remember what I was thinking when I said....

post4386136.html?hilit=VH45 J30#p4386136

According to this thread, a VH45 bolts basically into the J30 by turning the factory VH45 mounts 90°.. Knowing that the VH41 was offered in the J30 (granted the JDM version, which isn't that similar to the USDM VH41), my thought is that parts could be mixed and matched to work...

Also, are you sure the VK45 bellhousing bolt pattern is the same? I wasn't aware of that, and if it is that's great info!

No problem, I happened to have pictures from someone asking the same question on another nissanv8 forum. I did not know that about the VH fitting into the j30, I was even thinking about building a VHJ30.

See the link above, this guy is currently running the www.swap1uz.com VH45 adapter plate on his VK45 with a Z32 trans!

I thought the JDM J30 (Nissan Leopard) had a VH41DE....

You are correct. However the person in that thread swapped a VH45 into it.
