Hi guys i have a 90 na 300zx with a locked up motor. I had plans of 350 chevy swap but its on hold. My question is i got a wrecked 98 maxima 4 door with the 3000v6 in it. What all is required to swap that motor into my Z. it runs great.

It's a lesser motor, you're better off getting a good condition used NA motor. They're out there, many people doing NA-TT swaps.

im not looking for horsepower, im looking for quick driveability. I have my turbocharged 350 chevy for power later on. Im asking is it possible to bolt it in using the same mounts, and just transfer the harness over.

I think the motor will bolt up, but the harness and ECU may be an issue. You will have to research where the alternator harness ties into it and the ECU mounting, harness routing. Check out HybridZ.org to see if anyone has done it. They may even be able to help you through it as well.

But, BTD is right. You can pick up another NA motor pretty cheap. I sold mine that ran great for a couple of hundred dollars. I just wanted the thing gone.

That's odd, because I know of some that have used the J30 motor and I thought they were basically the same.

My 2cents from what i have found out....... correct me if i'm wrong but the maxima and the 300zx engines have different codes... maxima is vq30 and the z32 is vg30. I didn't do must more research but check wikipedia..... i thing the setup for both engines are different...... as for the j30... the engine code is the same as the z32 which is vg30de.....

I know its a VQ not a VG but i figured it would still bolt up and but useable for right now.

I thought the blocks were the same, but they could be different. I know the heads are different, as it's a SOHC motor Vs. the Z32's DOHC.

I thought the same as well. I also know the Maxima has a timing chain (3 of them actually) instead of a belt.
