I found a 89 s40sx se. The guy is taking $250 and said that the motor has a rod knock. I am wanting to put a motor from a 91 -93 in the car if I get it. My questions are What will I need to do to the car for a newer motor to be in it and what will it coast? Thanks Tim

search.

depends on which motor u want. the general thing to have is the engine, transmission, harness, and ECU. from there, it gets more specific depending on chassis and engine.

I am wanting to get the DOHC KA motor from the 91-93. In less I can spend the same amount of money on a different motor that is better than the 91-93 KA. Thanks Tim

My first question is where are you located? You tell me what you want for it and we will go from there. Is this a parts car or just the stuff that I will need? Motor, trans, wire harness, ECU and the other stuff that I am not thinking of right now? Thanks Tim

Why you want to get rid of the sohc? Get it rebuilt with high comp pistons or rebuilt with forgies and put on a turbo kit.

Well I am new to the 240 scene and a friend of mine said that I should get the DOHC KA motor that it was better. I really don't have the money right now to do anything fancy. i am open to ideas but keep in mind money is tight and that is why I was going with the DOHC KA. Tim

while the motor is out, if u have spare money, u can slap a few parts on it, clean it up while you can (especially if u have a parts washer, u can clean it internally). just make sure after cleaning u spray WD on it so the parts do not inhibit any rust. and make sure to measure the parts thoroughly and accurately before throwing them back on. and of course, dont be cheap with the lube. ive used vasoline on so parts because vasoline metabolizes with the oil when it heats up. its a nice trick. haha.

well good luck on the swap. and if u are interested, i have rebuild specs if u need them. ill send them to you. take it easy man.

Did not get the car. When I went and look it over it was not in as good of shape as my buddy had told me. So now back to the beginning again. I am going to just get a 91-93 that way I already have the ecu and wire harness just get one that needs a motor. I want an SE that way it has the power everything and the sunroof and rear defrost. I you all know of one in ky or TN let me know. I don't want to spend more than $800 or $900. I want good interior and good extiror. Motor and trans does not matter cause I can fix those. Thanks Tim

Timing chain guides will not make your car sound horrible. It will go tick tick tick at idle, but should sound great otherwise.
