I am located and Indianapolis and I am a newb to the SR20DET swap. We have a place here called Santeca check it out at http://www.santeca.com Would this be a good place to get an engine or have them to do the install. I have swapped honda's but they seem a little more straight forward then this swap. Also would it be better to buy a clip instead of just the engine package???:help

No, it wouldn't be better to buy a front clip. Just buy the motor package FROM A REPUTABLE SOURCE. This way you know that you are getting everything that you need.

As far as Santeca goes, I saw their S14 with SR swap last july at HIN Chicago and it looked like a good install. Don't know how it ran but it was real clean and they were nice to talk to.

eniety, why shouldnt he get a front clip? It all depends what he needs. If he also needs an auto to manual, a front clip would be best. If he wants jdm radiator, or other jdm parts (guages), or even replacement motor mounts Then go for the front clip. Mine cost 2500 complete, no shipping, which is a little less than buying just the engine complete from somewhere and shipping.

89sx, you may have gotten the entire clip for $2500, but most other people aren't going to find a clip for $2500. Plus shipping. Plus, he will be paying extra shipping because of the extra weight of the front clip. If he buys from a motor reputable place, then he should get everything that he will need.

http://www.venus-auto.com located in sacremento... It all depends if he is close to or is willing to drive to a shop. I dont know about santecas prices but if hes close he might be able to forget about shipping. If you buy the motor 100% complete you still wont get a radiator, and all the other things i mentioned...

You will get motor mounts with the motor. Who needs the JDM radiator? Take the money you save and buy a Greddy 2 core radiator or something.

You need it if you want the swap to go in smoothly. You can buy a new one by greddy, but then your paying more than the front clip price anyway with the install. Whatever fits your needs.

front clip sounds good to me, that way nothing is left out at all. basically, getting a full frontclip is like investing in good insurance. sometimes there's the "what if" question and a frontclip doesnt leave much room for a "what if"

89sx, how much did your front clip cost? they dont have price listings on the web site, so i was just wondering. i want a s14 front clip.

Oreo. I have no idea how much a s14 front clip is, call them. I have an s13. My specific reason for getting one was my auto to manual swap, thus saving me frequent trips to the wrecking yards (besides tach and power steering and ac...godam!)

I've done 4 SR swaps so far...2 front clips, 2 non-clips. And I can speak from my own experience that the front clip is definitely worth the extra money. Plus the engine is protected inside the frame during shipping. I purchased a front clip and it came with radiator, intercooler plus piping, Razo pedals:D, Tokyo city map:D, aftermarket shift knob...etc. Seriously, you get all the little clips and hoses for a OEM clean swap.

89sx bought an s13 front clip from them for 2500. No catch. I emailed them and they replied in literally 6 minutes after I sent it reguarding the price of their S14 front clips. That was the response from venus--2800 front clip, no catch. Shipping will bump the price up though.

hey 89, just curious because i am thinking about getting a clip from venus now--was there much damage or anything missing out of your clip? that's all i wanted to know. if not, its "full speed ahead scotty".

no, there was no damage. I live close by and the guy assured my that if i found something i could just drive it back (before i took the engine apart of course) Every Fc is different though, theres always the possibility of damage.

I was set on getting an engine from dauntless but the clip prices seem to be very close to his. I might just end up getting a front clip from them.

I haven't heard a whole lot about these guys, but I just called SOKO in Franklin Park, IL. They carry s13 sr20det's. They're going for $1700 ea. And it sounds like they have plenty in stock (~10 or so). I asked if they get any s14 motors, but they don't, or rarely do. Just thought I'd share that info w/everyone.

Hey RPS13 Rocket, I too am in Indy and know the guys at Santeca and they are good people. Not only are they good people but they do great work, I have seen their S13 converted Silvia in person and it is amazing. Also, one of the guys at the shop has a Pulsar GTi-R and it is really great also. They guys at Santeca will not do you wrong, they are a reputable shop who do it for the same reason we do, they are true automobile enthusiasts.
