I'm looking at getting a 70 or 71 datsun 521 that has the motor disassembled.  supposedly it was rebuilt and not put back together so it has suface rust.

I was looking at a L18 short block and wanted to know if I coud use the L16 head? Or could I use it on the L20b blcok as well?  the truck has been sitting some time but the body is in really good shape.

If I can get the L20b motor for the same price it would seem to be the way to go since it would have more power.       Any comments?

I found a guy who has long blocks where I can get the L16b for probably $500 so I might go that route.  Thats $250 cheaper than having one rebuilt here.
