Ok, I know I have been asking a lot of questions lately but isn't that what a forum is supposed to be to help and display your rides. Well anyway I have a s14 ka-t t3/t4 with 560cc injectors and I was wondering the motor has 525 miles on it and when it hits a 1000 I'm going to change it. I don't know what motor oil the pervious owner used but for the 1000 mile change what should I go with?
Appreciate any input
Thanks,
TwoFortyCoupe

Usually 1000 miles is my marker to switch to synthetic. I'm a purple kind of guy myself.

Here us some food for thought.

Based based on your climate a synthetic 20 50 would work very well fit you. It you can't afford royal purple, than I would recommend a delo 1540 synthetic or even conventional. Stay away from the ”le” stuff because of its low zinc content...... Especially if you have cams.

- 10w-40 for anything over 32*F all year.
- 5w-40 if you unfortunately live somewhere that hits less than 30*F at any time of the year.

Everything else is too thin or too thick. A turbocharged motor beats the oil up pretty well.

20W-50 sounds like cold-start engine wear to me.. Stuff's as thick as maple syrup.

Drain-Intervals:
Non-Synth / Semi-Synth - Change every 3K miles Or every 1/4 year (3 months)
Full Synth - Change every 3.5k - 4k miles Or every 1/3 year (4 months)

Just because it says its 20\50 didn't mean it doesn't flow well. Have you ever poured a bottle of synthetic 20/50? It sends to flour just fine. I would never run 10/40 a-because most 10 40 you will find is conventional. B- with the temp that we are normally in, 10/40 will break down faster than any other oil due to the point spread in viscosity. (20/50 has the same point spread but actually changes viscosity less) if you were to do anything ” 40” id do a 15/40. http://www.240sx.org/faq/articles/oil.htm here is a somewhat decent weight up that covers most of what you need to know. There is more about oil that I've learned in classes but would get downright boring to most. Lol

Mobil 1 makes a 15w50. It's a little thinner at start up with the same high end protection.

I'm pretty sure Mobil 1 also offers a 10w40

Yeah, fortunately I don't buy s*** 10W-40.. Only the best, ie Motul 300V.. Double Ester based full synthetic. Won't be breaking down at all.. Even their 5w-40 stuff wont break down ever.
