What would be a better choice of motor mounts NISMO, or CUSCO? No matter what I do I have to put new motor mounts in so what is your advice?

Hey jrc90240sx, is your engine put back into your car yet? I ask because i FINALLY got mine back in (with brand new Nismo mounts), and the strute tower brace i had on there before no longer fits. Its hitting the top of the valve pan cover. Im hoping the new mounts just need to be seated by running the car for a while, but i dunno.

When is a good time to get the mounts replaced? I'm getting the clutch done soon, and I figure they have to disconnect the transmission to get in there anyway...

Honestly it depends on a few things:

1) how old your mounts are2) how much your engine vibrates3) what kind of performance mods you have

Mine were fine until i got my Nismo camshaft. The wild duration and extreme lope cause my engine to buck back and forth like a bronco at the rodeo (bad example, but you get my point). Although i have YET to start my newly rebuilt engine with new Nismo mounts, i seriously expect it to sit more solidly in the engine bay. If your engine sits just fine, then its a matter of how much do you want to pay for something you may or may not notice a difference. But if they are shot, then you will enjoy them.

They fit either engine. I got mine from http://www.Phase2motortrend.com but you can also get them from http://www.JSpec.com

not they don't.

i've been trying to find the thread from another forum where someone compared their stock mounts to the mounts that were in their front clip. the mounts were not the same. one of the SR mounts was actually taller than one of the KA mounts. if this is the case, a KA with SR mounts would sit the KA higher in the engine bay.

that's why your STB no longer fits. switch to new oem Ka mounts and i bet your STB will fit.

i've never understood why people want to upgrade their mounts anyways. they oem motor mounts have proven themselves in high hp KAs.

Ka and SR motor mount differences

the KA does not sit square in the engine bay while the SR does. if you use SR mounts the KA will sit higher.

I found a website a while back that gave the address, and how much $ money order to send and you will get a NISMO mail order magazine. Does anyone know where I saw this? I can't remember.

Damn those sound like damn good cams, all you need is a shaker.

Ya, its a .402" lift (stock is .409") with a HUGE 270 rotation where stock is 228. BIG difference! Basically im building my whole motor around the camshaft!!

I will have to look closer at my mounts, because i did compare them before i installed them and the height was the same, but i did not notice if the studs were offset or straight. Thanks for the link, great stuff.

hey, i was wondering if any of you knew where i could get motor mounts such as energy suspension, or are the nismo mounts the same thing? when i start or rev up the engine, the engine rocks a little, and even worse, if you get under the car and shake the transmission, the whole things moves what seems to me alot. But when i asked a mechanic to check them(motor mounts and transmission mount) he said they were fine. I also noticed that the engine is vibrating some when i accelerate hard. I was thinking that the less the motor and transmission move, the better. Also, would looser motor mounts and transmission mount effect the amount of torque to the ground if they were bad? I think they need replaced, and when i get the new clutch put in, that is when i would rather replace them all. i am handy with a wrench, but am next to clueless about the mounts in my 240. any help would be great, thanks

Well my engine just got finished last friday, but i have been 300 short of picking it up. It has been one really good learning lesson to never trust work to someone else. My block turned out to be slitly shorter then the norm so i was left having to split the cost of fixing the pistons that wernt even corect the frist time. Its my fault for all of this happening, but it still sucks. Anyway to the monts, i had to replace my monts as they fell apart when i pulled the engine out. from looking at them they look pretty close, but only time will tell. I curently dont have a strut brace, but I should have the car back and running in the next week or so (when ever time and money alow) And will tell you what i think.
