Getting ready to install fresh motor mounts in my 93 NA today, and I thought I would see how difficult a job I am getting myself into. There doesn't seem to be a writeup anywhere, so maybe it's no big deal.

Has anyone done this recently? Any tips/tricks I should know?

Really? Nobody has replaced their motor mounts? Ever?

Well, the lack of patience is going to kill you on this job. People have done this. It's relatively hard to replace the mounts while the motor is in the car. You have to jack the motor up a bit and loosen the transmission mount. Then, find a way to finagle your hand and a few tools in there to remove the old mounts. If you aren't mechanically inclined... It will be very difficult and not recommended.

If you remove the AC compressor and alternator it gets much easier (still a PITA).

I got under it and toughed it out. I had to replace the driver's side exhaust manifold anyway, and that made it a lot easier.

Mounts on both sides came out in pieces.

It's 10,000 times more solid now.
