I'm a DIYer following crumbs of information and I have been led to believe by two details that my motor mounts may be on their way out. The first, which I just noticed this week, is at low speeds I can quickly push the gas pedal and the let go and I hear a subtle "clink" noise as my foot leaves the pedal. It doesn't happen every time. The other I just noticed today. I was
parked on a very slight incline and when I shifted from park to reverse I heard and mostly felt a "clink" noise. Again, it doesn't happen every time. I simply googled these symptoms and was guided to motor mounts.

Not sure if I'm noticing the symptoms correctly or not. But I combed over NICOclub and found no references to motor mounts anywhere. Can someone please show me the location of these mounts? I found the parts on RockAuto. Anyone with experience replacing these have any advice on their experience?

Any info is highly appreciated. Thank you.

The diagrams on this webpage should give you a fair view of where they are located.

Thank you for the diagram. I finally was able to get under it today and found them. They look like a pain to remove, is there anyone who has had experience with the process of replacing them?

I've never had the pleasure but you're going to need an engine hoist. The Haynes repair manual I use applies to your '98 as well. The procedure seems simple enough but an engine hoist is required. Even to properly check the rubber parts of the mounts requires the engine to be slightly lifted from above with a hoist.

Changing the motor mounts doesn't require an engine hoist. The engine can be supported from above (engine support bar) or underneath (with transmission jack, among a few other options) while the subframe is lowered a couple inches. If you're 4WD, you'll also realize the front axle restricts access to bottom motor mount hardware, so it's best removed. This also helps with removal and installation of the mounts from underneath the truck; the engine mount brackets make it difficult to remove them from the engine bay, not to mention all the other junk up top that still blocks the way, even after clearing stuff out.
