im looking to buy another dual cam motor, and want to do a complete performance rebuild on the engine.. ive been looking around for kits, and the ams kit looks pretty good ( http://www.amsperformance.com) but if anyone had any better suggestions, that might work better or be cheaper, im open to any input. reason im asking KA-T owners, is that many of you have already gone through this stuff..

i got a full rebuild kit with forged pistons, rods, all arp hardware, bearings, gaskets etc for 1000. i found some kid on craigslist sellin a 1700 package for like 1500 and i talked him down to 1k. otherwise buy everything separate just wit for good deals. if you cant wait, go with ams or one of the other places that sell forged rebuild kits

I think if you add it all up, they kind of overpriced it. http://www.undergroundmotorsports.com/

eagle rods$320 It's included w/ arp bolts(p2m)Pistons around $500, i bought my Arias 8.8:1 $450 (ivan uses arias in his 9sec ka-t)ARP main$105, ARP head stud $110(p2m)Cometic HG $86(p2m)Clevite main/rod bearing $75(ams)Mr. Gasket exhaust manifold gasket$30(autozone special order)

$1226(this is if you pay cash then usually they dont tax, or if your out of state) Plus you can also ask for a better deal if you buying from one place, they always down to do it.

usually oil pump dont need to be replaced, just make sure to inspect it. OSK timing chain kit is $150(frsport.com) and works good.

If your not planning to run over 400whp then i think you should just get complete Felpro gasket set comes w/ HG also and can support up to 500whp. if you're not planning to resurface your block and head then cometic can be bad and it might leak on you. so best is felpro. too many people had bad experience w/ cometic.

Hope this helps..

Buy your stuff from the classifieds. The Z forum, the .Org, and here. You can find some really good deals on new stuff.

AMS sucks as a business, and their kit is overpriced. You can get the exact same components for cheaper if you piece it together.

ive reused oil pumps on motors that ive tore down and put back together with used parts. thats one thing. but if im gonna build an engine with all new forged internals id replace the oil pump just for insurance.
