Motor arrived on monday!!! looks a little more beat up than I had wished but I guess all the important stuff is ok... Anyways the rest of the pictures can be found here: http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4288541329

I got one n00b question for you guys.... I will not be able to put the motor in for awhile, so what should I inspect on this motor to make sure its in good running order?

Bluefire, I'de love to come take a look at that thing one day. Where in Walnut are you? I go to Cal Poly Pomona, so I'm right in the area. Shoot me an email: [email protected]

Pull the valve covers, the head probably has a ton of old oil caked around the cams and bearing caps. Inspect the timing belt and tensioners. Check all the coil packs, make sure the electrode inside the rubber boot is still attached to the spring and that it isn't completely worn. Check the compression to, if you have a kit. Most of the motors over look just like that, the damn salt is horrible in the air. So it makes the motor look alot worse then it really is. Best of luck and happy boosting.

Looks good. I don't think it's necessarily 'beat up'.. it's just corroded a bit from the salt/humidity. (as said above) and possibly rain.

I don't know if you have, but check that intercooler piping to make sure you have put some sort of lip/ raised ring (I guess you could use epoxy) around the ends so that you don't pop off pipes under boost. Might want to upgrade piping soon if your boost goes up. I don't know how much PVC might balloon under boost. It is a good temporary fix to get the car running, but I wouldn't recommend leaving it that way for a long time.

Bluefire, congrats on the new motor!

Good idea about the raised lip on the PVC ends. I havent done this yet, but I will.

2" ID Schedule 40- PVC pipe is rated 280PSI wall pressure. I dont think I will be reaching that kind of boost ;) I have made rocket motors and pipe bombs out of this stuff and i KNOW it can handle several hundred PSI. I am sure it will be fine for stock boost of 7 PSI :P

Thanks WD I will be checking those things once I pull the motor and get it onto a stand...

I got the clip from venus for $3000 shipped... Price should be like $200 more for a 25 clip now.... according to venus
