I parked the garage after my commute home today and smelled something funny from the engine compartment. I popped open the hood and saw a small white bag hanging from the battery with mothballs inside.

Anyone have this in their 2009 Murano?

Sounds like someone's idea of a practical joke (but how would they get under your hood?). I can't think of any other reason for this.

I mean it has to have been there since I bought the car. Could this car have shipped with this bag hanging there for any reason? I haven't engaged the dealer yet, but I have to guess someone else had this experience.

Interesting.....

Do a google search on "mothballs under the hood". Apparently this is a way to keep rodents out of your engine compartment. Perhaps they found mice under the hood when they prepped your car?

mothballs were added to the engine compartment at the dealership to keep pests from making a home out of the engine compartment, also back in the day they used mothballs in the gas tanks to make a higher octaine rating .
