Moth Balls

Ok this sounds nuts. This is something i heard from an old man today(Cliff). I was talking to him about cars and he said he was putting moth balls in his fuel tank when he was young.He said put 5 in tank per 10 gals or gas ,. he said it will make the octain in the gas double. He said the down side was that it put off the moth ball smell from the exhaust. He said it wasnt to bad tho . Alltho i was wondering if any one else has heard of this from a old man or is this guy bull ****ting me. let me know what you think . This guy is a joke player but swears that the moth balls increase the octain by huge amounts, let me know what you think please. if hes bulling me hes going to need :help monday LOL this is kinda funny but want to know if its true

Hmm, I don't know if he's messing with you, but I would imagine that moth balls would raise octane as theyr'e almost 100% made up of naphthalene. It would be similar to adding alcohol, but I don't know what its actual composition is so I don't know if its safe. If you want to raise octane, I would suggest using toluene as we have measurements and it can be safely added. : ) However, you really don't need to raise octane unless you're running a high horsepower application, high octane gasoline doesn't do anything unless you have a high performance vehicle.

Tolulene, huh? All you need now is some Sudafed and some coffee filters and you got yourself some bathtub crank!!! No wonder it raises the octane in your car...it sure will raise the octane in your bloodstream....not that I would know or anything:eek:

toluene is a by product of making gas and is used in paint thinner, lacquers, adhesives and other stuff. i don't think ingesting or even inhaling that stuff is good, but it does raise octane. buy it at a paint store in a big drum.

if you get it in 55 gallon drums it can be under 2 dollars a gallon dependant upon where you live. : )

Alot of places have stopped selling the stuff...I worked at Lowe's and we stopped selling it because of the contribution it makes to the Meth scene...believe it or not Grayson County in Texas is one of the worst Meth producers in the entire country..we have a bust here at least once a week...I saw a woman at K-mart buying about 20 boxes of Sudafed...such a nasty white trash drug...
