If you are wanting cheap, decent horsepower I would put intake and exhaust first, then maybe plug wires, header, etc. But if you are wanting to get alot of horsepower then I would go with the sr20 because it has alot more potential and aftermarket support. But it costs more.

It all really depends on which way you want to go.You can build the KA all motor, but you won't get much hp without internals and even then you still won't get much higher than 200hp and you'd spend alot do'n it. You could also Turbocharge the KA.Run a good 5-7 pounds on stock internals w/o blown it and you could get anywhere from 190-275 hp.And finally, the easy way out,SR or CA swap, both will cost a pretty penny, but in the end 205-700hp beasts, well worth it.As I said,it all depends on what you want and what range of horsepower you're shoot'n for.

You could have a 185rwhp KA24DE in your car, and if it's still attached ot that automatic transmission, you'll still run slower than a stock-ish 5-speed.

If you want to go fast, you need a 5-speed in that car....then add power.

One race does not make it an absolute.

My auto S14 ran a best of 16.6 @ 84...that's relatively quick for an auto. Similar mods to yours...

Same car, less than a month later, at the same track...but now with a 5-speed: 15.6 @ 89.

Not to say an auto with more power can't be a fun car...it'll just never be that fast...as the 240SX doesn't have a great power-to-weight ratio anyway, and then you cripple it with an auto.

I'm only pointing out that $800 spent to make the car faster will still have him in the 16s, whereas $800 spent on converting to a 5-speed will have him close to a second faster.

SR's are cool and all but i still stick by the words of some random guy, "no replacement for displacement". You can build a ka up more then 2. And trust me, there is plenty of support for the KA. Also, unless your handi-cap in some way, a manual gear box would be a much better choice.

I'd be happy with 180rwhp for AutoX duties. ;)

a guy with a KA in Az has laid down 530+rwhp. the bottom end is rebuilt but the fuel management and other things like that were stock until JWT tried some prototype stuff on it.

Whoa, whoa, whoa...

That fuel system is nowhere near stock. Don't confuse the newbs...

He was running a JWT ECU with 72lb top feed injectors, billet fuel rail, Cobra MAF, big fuel pump, etc...

Now he's trying a Ford Lightning MAF (4" ID) and 96lb/hr injectors...shooting for +600rwhp.

ok ok i messed. i should have said easier to do...or something along that line i guess. but imo the og setup he had was truly easy to do and with the power he put down more than enough. at least it wasn't some kinda of $2k stand alone...that is what i should have said. it was not a $2k stand alone. anyways that new JWT thing is going to be freaking crazy.

Actually that last run was with the JWT prototype program for 96lb injectors and the Ford lightning maf. Mike Lee is a KA-T god :ylsuper

You have a few websites you can go to... http://www.ka-t.org and many others.
