like the title says, im assuming its the fuel injectors. things that have led me to this conclusion is my HORRIBLE mpg for like the past year or so. like 15-20, worst was about 12. i dont floor it or anything, always shifting below 3000rpm, usually at 2750. mainly communting to school and back, total 15 miles.

since ive own the car ive changed the fuel pump, fuel filter and rubber hoses because it blew on me, plugs, wires, air filter, 02 sensor... basically anything i could think of that would cause bad milage.

at times when i drive my car past 3000rpm, even for a SHORT period of time ie. to pass up a car i notice my gas gauge goes down. it seriously does. today i was at the 1/4 line of my tank. then after i passed up the car it went below the mark. so what do you guys think ? and my car is at NOT, so im not driving it cold.

btw, im getting a set of used (1000 miles) injectors/rail for like $60. just wanted to make sure that my $60 will be good and hopefully solve my problem.

Hey Nismod,

Probably unlikely, but maybe you've got a fuel leak. Usually the fuel lines running from tank to engine are either steel-braided or solid steel, so again this is probably unlikely, but check it out. At around 3,000rpms like you were saying you can actually watch your gauge dropping, there's a lot of pressure in your lines. Even a tiny hole - one you might not see, ever - in a major fuel line and you could floor your car, dump a decent amount of gasoline on the street, and never know.

Also check ALL the little rubber fuel lines inside the engine compartment for leaks. Do you smell gas while you're driving?

I'm hesitant to agree that you've got an evident injector problem. If an injector is closed and won't open to spray your combustion chambers, there's nowhere that gas can go. It just sits, unused in your fuel rail until pressure takes it to an open injector. On the opposite, an injector that's stuck OPEN is a very, very noticeable thing. Hehe.

I hope this helps.

ive only smelled gas when i put in more than 1/2 a tank of gas. that was about 4 or 5 months ago though. nowadays i dont usually smell it anymore. does that help ?

well i guess ill make sure and change out all the hoses when i put in the new injectors/rail.

thanks for the help... hope i get my injectors/rail soon
