Who has any idea how to load these? Are the struts supposed to come up on their own?

Yes.

when you press them down they should push up by it self slowly. That's how you can tell if shocks are good or not.

That's how they keep the car stady on bumps and dips.

How easy should they push down? One hand and these go down. they come back up so slow and not ll the way.

If you replaced with the OEM "oil bath" front struts, there is no gas pressure at all, so I can't imagine how they'd go up on their own.

Yeah q_ship I bought the inserts from Joe and I contacted him the other day about the same issue. Apparently they are suppose to be that way. I pulled the cartridge all the way out and got on the spring before it receded a lil. However go ahead and install it in the housing and then try extending it to is max and then pray for quick hands.

Good luck!

There seems to be a lot of tension to pull the thing up but barely any going down. Joe said this is right?

you linked my thread, but you lost me. you are doing inserts (cartridge)? your question is about the cartridge not being extended or how the factory 'oil bath' assembly separates?

if you have a sealed cartridge replacement, you should have some but not huge resistance to collapsing the extended rod (gas pressure), and a lot of resistance to re-extending, or 'pulling out' the previously collapsed rod extension.

Falk is correct so is Jay. Hydro shock don't have free rebound as gas chaged shoks do!If you have callapced shock and you tru to pull rod out you should have considerable amount of resistance depending on the speed at which you're pulling it out! Valving in a hydro shock is designed to control flow of oil at various speeds (suspension travel) The higher the speed of rebound/collapce the more resistance is created (simple hydraulic rules). As to struts cartrige R+R , it should come out w/o any problems. Here is link zerothread?id=132979Undo a nut and it will fall out!

You have T model, might be slightly different!

Cheers!

It just shocks me how easy the strut is going down and how musch resistance there is when pulling it back up. It comes back up about half way on it's own but VERY VERY slowly.

Mike, you went with the non-Touring shocks correct? If that's the case, then your description of them sounds right, they should barely go up on their own at all, but should be firm to pull or push.

Man, you're working yourself into a frenzy! They're not pressurized, they may go down with ease by your hand, but when it's an impact, coupled with the springs, they are supposed to behave like that! Just put it back together and it should be fine. You got new units right? I seriously doubt that they're defective.

Slowly, yes.

Rapidly, no.
