I have been searching thru all of the NICO posts regarding anything transmission related in the hopes of a solution besides R&R; this has led me to ask you all a question:

I have read that the first gen trannies have a series of cooling slots on the lower bellhousing, like this I believe.... IIII.

However on my 93's transmission I seem to have a square opening with a black steel mesh or screen in it.

Is this a 94+ transmission? Or am I misreading info.

Anybody have a picture of a 90-93 transmission and a 94-96 transmission to send me?

Just trying to determine if the transmission I have is original or newer.

Thanks,

Andy

My 94 transmission has this mesh on it... Its probably supposed to be black, but I think mine was just metal...

The opening (I THINK) is to drain the torque converter, as this couldnt provide any cooling...

Show me some posts that say these are cooling slots...

Ive seen about 3/4 of the transmission, and I cant recall anything looking like cooling slots..

The only thing that cools the transmission is the transmission COOLER, whihc you should have an aftermarket one of...

Is the transmission in the car? If so a good way to tell which transmission you have without pulling it out to read the sticker on top of the housing is a follows.

There is a metal tag attached to the rear mounting point that you should be able to remove/read by just removing the rear (right hand) mounting bolt from memory. Hope this is helpful.
