Car: 91 S13 KA24DE just swapped in the 5 speed

Post

alright heres the deal, i tried searching but came up with only stuff for singel cam KA's. i am doing a timing chain swap. Can someone let me know if the car needs to be at TDC on the compression or does it need to be TDC on the Exhaust stroke?? and also, i have heard that the colored links on the top chain, and the dots on the upper cam gears need to be aligned a certain way. I downloaded the FSM but it wont open on my computer, it freezes it. so any help would be appreciated...thanks

Dustin

The really is only one TDC for the crankshaft. When the crankshaft is at TDC, you set the cams to make sure that both valves are closed on the #1 piston and that's what designates it as the compression stroke. then you only need to set your distributor to the #1 positoin to fire at that piston on TDC compression stroke.

alright, i think im following you so far. my question is though, the dots on the upper cam gears, and the colored links on the upper double chain, which way do they get lined up?? i hear this is like the most important step. thanks for your help i appreciate it!

are you only changing the upper chain? the lobes on number 1 will be facing out when your one tdc compression stroke. there should be three colored links on the top chain. one should be diff. from the other 2. the 2 that are the same color would be the 2 to line up with the dots on your cam gears
