Yeah, you all knew the subject was bogus because there has never been any issues with violence at a Tea Party meet. Anyway...Seems like the left-coast is mirroring the students in the UK?

13 arrested at UC Board of Regents meeting

SAN FRANCISCO — UC police made 13 arrests and used pepper spray to subdue aggressive demonstrators outside of UC San Francisco’s Mission Bay facility this morning during the UC Board of Regents meeting. The regents were beginning to discuss a proposed 8 percent fee increase.

One police officer drew his gun after protesters rushed and battered him at a security post in a parking garage. The officer was later disarmed by a UC Merced student and injured by his own baton, UC San Francisco police Chief Pamela Roskowski said.

The student was charged with assault with a deadly weapon. Of the 13 arrests, 11 were students.

No UCLA students were arrested or involved in the protest. The Undergraduate Students Association Council Director of Advocacy Todd Bowen said the UCLA students made peaceful protest a priority, skipping the picketing to listen to discussion in the meeting. A group of UCLA students, including USAC President Jasmine Hill, left Los Angeles on Tuesday night in a pair of vans to attend.

Bowen, a fourth-year international development studies student, wore a sticker across his mouth with the words “Stop Fees” as a symbolic gesture. He said that UCLA representatives could participate in more aggressive protests if student demands are not met.

“We’re hoping we don’t have to escalate it,” Bowen said.

Goes along with world politics as UK is increasing their college rates and causing riots.

Then again, you knew that.

That, at least, I should have known.

But still: the incidents of Tea Party violence, isolated and outlandish though they may have been (even perhaps fabricated) were ideologically driven. I don't get the impression that the riots in either California or the United Kingdom are ideologically driven. Maybe partially, but I have to say that I doubt there'd have been any violence had there been no imposition of additional costs.

What Tea Party violence? Oh, the SEIU beating up that black guy that was handing out GOP stuff? I only hear about violence at Dem/lib/enviro/student gatherings.

Realize these hikes are due to Cuts in state funding so there is a political involvement via Cali not being able to balance their budget and being selective about where they cut costs. UK raising their rates is due to budget issues as well. Both have caused protests which have lead to violence (more so in the UK).

Whatever. I wrote "even perhaps fabricated" in order to avoid an argument on that subject. Turns out, you are that obnoxious.

That political action indirectly led to a riot doesn't necessarily make the riot politically-motivated.

Political action could lead to the abolition of the Fourth Amendment, but if the riots only occur when police start breaking down doors at random, turning homes inside out to find any incriminating evidence, I think you'd be hard-pressed to say that the ensuing riots were motivated by the abolition of the Fourth Amendment. A more likely story is that they were motivated by police breaking down doors, turning homes inside out.

In other words: we don't care enough to riot if the government changes a piece of paper. We care enough to riot if the government acts in accordance with that change. The former is politics; the latter is self-interest.
