So, I keep seeing all this race stuff coming up and it always seems to be the Democrats pulling the race card. It happened again yesterday when Florida Rep. Alcee Hastings (D) had a meeting with black and Jewish democrats yesterday. During the speech he warned the two minority groups to beware of Sarah Palin because “anybody toting guns and stripping moose don’t care too much about what they do with Jews and blacks.” which was followed by “If Sarah Palin isn’t enough of a reason for you to get over whatever your problem is with Barack Obama, then you damn well had better pay attention,”.

WTF is these peoples problem?

I also wonder who the hell would elect this guy in the first place. Hastings, a former federal judge, was impeached and removed from the bench in 1989 for perjury and corruption. He was then elected to Congress in 1992.

Wow

"...anybody toting guns and stripping moose don't care too much about what they do with Jews and blacks."

WOW.

If that's not fearmongering, I don't know what is.

An insult to the Jewish and Black community if I ever saw one.

Reverse racism if you asked me, but people don't really get into trouble for that. To be honest, what he said just barely makes sense to me. Its stupid, it really is--the comments and racism. I've been called racist before because I don't find black women attractive or as attractive as women of other races. That would be like saying gay people are gay by choice--they don't choose what makes them get excited, its just wired up in their brain. Same goes for me and women, I can't force myself to be attracted to something I find unattractive.

This is indeed a very very stupid comment, and I DO think it's an insult to both communties.

That said, both communities tend to be pretty fervently anti-gun. He could definitely have said it more eloquently, but I think the point he's trying to make is that someone from a rural pro-gun pro-hunting environment is not going to be fairly representing the sentiments of these two historically urban, hunting-ambivalent and staunchly anti-gun demographics.

But yes, he's a tard, and he's embarassing.

You assume that's what he meant. He may just as easily meant it as it sounds.

Ok, fair enough. I don't know what the man meant.

I guess I'm saying that the point he SHOULD have been making is what I wrote, as it's a valid point and appealing to those two demographics on an anti-gun stance has, historically, been very successful. I'm saying that I don't have any problem with someone openly appealing to said demographics with said stance, as they're quite plainly in support of it by overwhelming numbers.

But yes, he's an idiot.

You can call it "Snuffaluffagus" if you want to, but if playing on anti-gun sentiments when talking to liberals is fear mongering, then so is playing on anti-abortion sentiments when talking to conservatives.

^ Being conservative, I cringe at the thought of abortion and run away with my tail between my legs.

Actually not really. Abortion is something I actually agree with, just so long as women aren't whoring themselves out and going to clinic every few months. Its one of my things where I effectively cross the line from right to left I guess.

As for the topic of the thread, I definitely consider it fear mongering as well. The choice of words says it all.

He was playing on far more than anti-gun sentiments. He played the race and Antisemitism cards at the same time in a way to inject fear. This was just as idiotic as Whoopi asking if she should be afraid of becoming a slave again

Well, I don't think it was QUITE as dumb as the Whoopi thing, just because of the fact that beyond being racially insensitive, she just didn't make any sense.

He definitely said it the wrong way, he should have said that "anyone who is concerned about toting guns and stripping moose probably doesn't vote the way the Jewish and Black communities typically vote".

We're arguing about this an awful lot, despite the fact that I think we both agree the guy is a huge douche.

What's all this about "pregnant Black moose abortions"?

Did Oprah get pregnant and exercise her Constitutional rights?

Between Murtha pulling the racist claims about Pennsylvanians and this junk put out by a Republican group here locally, there is obviously enough racism still around in this country on both sides to embarrass all of us.

I'm ashamed this came from here in town and it's another illustration of why I changed my party affiliation away from the Republicans after 30 years.

I wish politicians would quit that ****. It is demeaning to black people, Hispanics, any group that politicians think can be swayed in this way. They call their opponents racists and then tailor their message to the groups they are trying to influence which is pure racism. It is time for someone who understands that Americans of all colors and any other demographic delineation have more in common than they do differences.

They want to feel safe to live their lives free of hate, crime and discrimination.

They want an honest wage for an honest days work and for government to keep their god damned hands off of it.

They want to know if they get sick they can get affordable quality health care and drugs that are not predatorily priced.

They want infrastructure, public works and facilities to be maintained.

They want the ability to buy a home within their means and get out from under rent payments and start investing in their own square footage of America.

They want good schools and affordable higher education for their kids.

Things like this. These are not new ideas. They are woven into the fabric of the American dream and politicians of all major parties don't or more likely won't get that. I am a white male, I am sure there are experiences that shape the way a black man thinks that I have not been exposed to, and I he. On the above points though I think we likely would agree. It's not a color thing, it's a human thing. It is insulting the way people are handled by politicians but the various perveyers of hate and discourse present in every group will make sure it never goes away.
