Yeah you were totally right. I'm still getting a P1320 Ignition Primary code which the dealer thinks has to do with the mechanic possibly putting in the wrong coils. I'm going to wait a little while and let all of this digest before I tackle that one.asnorton44 wrote:Yeah I also had all the problems he had, even black smoke coming out of the exhaust. New MAF and my truck is running great!
Awesome thanks! Do you know where to find the manufactured date? I'm guessing it's on the door or under the hood somewhere.asnorton44 wrote:Yeah you are having the exact same problem I was having. I also too had P1320 which was fixed by replacing my coils. For the R50 there are three different types of coils, so he very well might have put in the wrong ones. I also had wrong coils installed in my car. I went to this site for the correct coils:
http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/2001/i ... _coil.html
My car was manufactured 08/00 so I had to get the 01-01-00 To:08-31-00 production range coils.
Well If these pics are correct then I've got the wrong coils installed. My production date is 04/00 and I don't have the black dot on my 2-5 coils. Can someone with an 2001.0 confirm that their 2-5 coils have the dot?asnorton44 wrote:My CEL 1320 turned off after about 50 miles of driving after I had the correct coils installed, I had the wrong ones in there.

Well my issue was 2-fold, a bad MAF and having the wrong coils. Glad to see yours is operating normally, this dept. can be tricky.poontz13 wrote:Don't know if you're still monitoring this thread, but I went through everything on my 01path, all new plugs, buying a new coil and moving it around, new MAF (both maxima and pathfinder), on rail injector cleaner...turned out to be bad gaskets. What finally convinced me to let a mechanic get inside the engine was 1. that the shaking was unbearable and 2. after trying the MAF, I got a misfire on cylinder 3 one day then two days later go misfire on #5 (and #5 had the brand new coil in it). They cleaned and "ohm'd out" the injectors (thinking at first that I needed a new injector) and replaced the intake gaskets and everything is fine so far.

It's been running great and it hasn't thrown a code yet.Ryman wrote:empty if you were right about our coils having a dot on them i believe that mines are wrong as well.... after you switched it out with the coils with the dot how has it been running?
Your vehicle's production date can be found on the driver's door. Dates 01/01/2000-08/31/2000 are 2001's and 09/01/2000-06/30/2001 are 2001.5's. I pulled this info off of Partsgeek's ignition coil specs.Towncivilian wrote:How do you tell if you've got a 2001 or 2001.5? I assume by manufacturing date?
The only difference I've run into so far is with the ignitions coils but I'm sure there are other things that they changed. Chances are if you're looking for parts they'll be for the later model. Now that I think about it there are 2 different headlamp ballasts so they might have changed those during the '01 production. Maybe you could confirm by checking yours and posting how many connectors each one has.Towncivilian wrote:Great, thanks for the info. I've got an 2001.5, then. Do you know of any significant differences between the two?
