im looking at a cam combo of HKS 264 I / 272 E step 2 camshafts...

i do have stock internals, really dont shift higher than 7000rpm at the track, wanted to know if the cams are too agressive for stock valve springs or should i step down to step 1 256/264 combination. Please do not ask why im using different cams. i have my reasons that have been proven by me previously on my last car. thanks for the help in advance guys! you all help me more than you know sometimes!

Phil

with my limited knowledge of cams i am willing to bet that that cam combination will push your usable power band to the top of what you already have. this question would be better answered in the sr forum

the cam combo will throw more air out on the turbo through the exhaust thats why you run a larger exhaust... comes from my DSM experience... works amazingly well actually.. but not being familiar with SR cams and such, didnt know if the Step 2 HKS cams are too agressive for stock top end even tho i only shift at 7000

If you only shift at 7000rpm you have no need to upgrade the valvetrain imo. if you're going for just a shift in the power pand a little the step one cams will do just fine, and shifting closer to 7500 would take advantage of the extra power up higher. if your going to use the step 2 then you're gonna want to shift a bit higher than 7000, you'll probably want it around the low 8,000's to take full advantage of the cam sizes...I'm not too familiar with the SR's valvetrain but if you don't feel safe in the 8000 range then you'll want to beef up the valvetrain just for security. IMO the step one would be better if you want to keep stock valvetrain.

and i said that they are probably too much for stock top end on a dd if you want to take full advantage of the new powerband

meaning that if you don't feel comfortable beeing a grand or so past the stock redline then either go with stage one, or update valvetrain...and imo shifting a grand over stock redline often would put a bit too much stress on the top end...but like i said i don't know much about the SR's i'm just giving input.....

i got my answer already... if you can run JWT S4 cams on stock top end you can run Step 2 HKS... the step 2 HKS are slightly shorter lift than the JWT cams... and you can chose what duration you want
