So yeah...its tax time and momma gave me about a $1k budget to make the little 720 faster. Gimme some opinions guys...let me know what you would do... its an 84 2wd. It has 66k original miles and all the emissions have been deleted. The engine is all stock. Let's put our heads together and make this little sucker blow the tires off!

well... either
A) Rebuild the stock engine into a beast, ie, turbo or L-series head and high compression and big carbs
B) Swap the engine for something similar, ie, KA swap
C) Swap the engine for something dissimilar, ie Chevy 350

What strikes your fancy? Depending on your skills and workspace and contacts probably any of those could be done within $1000 the way I figure

Well I have been doing some research on the SBC swap and have decided that this is wwwaaayyyyyy too much cutting. So we are definitely not going that route. Next is that I have access to a garrett turbo...not sure what size....off of a Dodge Omni GLH. I would need a guide on exactly what I would need to set up the fuel system to accommodate. I met a guy that told me if I bought a weber progressive, he could build it to suit a blow~thru turbo system for around $300. I have also considered a KADE swap but I would have to buy an engine up front and that would use up most of the available funds. I also wonder what other supporting mods I would need to support forced induction on a Z24.

Do turbo carb. my friend wants me to but I can't afford to buy a turbo kit, so unless I get something dirty cheap and usable, I can only convince other to do it.

But what my budget plan would be to find a VG30et turbo and use a side mount and build an air box to fit the weber. rejet and see how it spins. I'm just waiting for some free time to finish my rebuild.

As long as the long block is solid and your gaskets aren't about to blow out anyway... not much is needed from the sound of it. more fuel, mess with timing and viola.

Also you want to really find out the specs on that turbo. You want to be able to spin it pretty easy with a 2.4, It not like we have alot of revs to work with.

I would love for someone to chime in who knows a lot about turbo carbs.

Me too...I know nothing about blow thru systems other than I've heard that several pieces have to be outside the Carb instead of inside...I.e. bowls and power valve...I would love to do it for sure.
