OK, we have decided Quella (our 95 Q45t) is just too sweet to let go, so she's getting a new JDM takeout engine in a couple weeks.

Engine has arrived (35K mile 90-93 President takeout) and looks to be in great shape, based upon my mech's inspection.

What I want to know is, aside from the obvious and necessary preliminary work (chain guides, new underplenum hoses, swap injectors, new 02 sensors, new t-stat, etc etc etc), what can I do to give her a little more power (since the engine is out).

Already planning to replace entire exh system with a mandrel-bent setup, considering fabbing some headers, and I'll be minus the precats (JDM motor).

All suggestions welcome, as my mechanic is excited about doing a few mods before we swap in the engine!

NICO ECM?

Difficult to think of anything without a serious investment in time and money.

Maybe adapting the GM 6 speed like Sijoko suggested?

Twin turbo, perhaps a supercharger or at least NOS "100 shot" while you're at it?If all that is excessive, then large capacity injectors at least and try to get 3.0 inch exhaust at least with bigger cats. Good headers a must! It's all good!

Greg, you suck!

If you intend to force air into the engine, go with a 2.5" exhaust, other wise go with a 2.25".

Larger, mandrel bent exhaust does not net any more HP than the stock exhaust, it just sounds better. Now, headers would make a difference. Be sure to go with long-tube tri-Y set-up. I have considered buying some Ford Mustang Cobra 4.6 headers, since it is a DOHC V-8 similar to the Q, and modifying them to fit the car. I have no idea how close they would be. Be sure to keep the old exhaust manifolds, so you have a nice flange to start with on the header build.

getting rid of the cats all together might gain some HP. I never ran any Dyno numbers with out cats. I did punch my precats and install the NICO ECU, before both runs, so I don't have any stock numbers.

I plan on forced induction (trying to determine best route, now). I have even been considering contacting Thomas Knight. Either thah, or let Slim loose on the tt kit.

Nitrous would be a hoot for those Mustangers that try to pass you on the interstate on ramps!

Whatever you do HP wise, beef up the transmission a bit. A high stall torque converter will help with off-the-line performance. It should be easy to install with the engine out of the car.

Now, paint that biotch black, and you will have a sweet ride!

ECU, cams, headwork, open ITB's and a dry sump system!

Just kidding, but I bet ITB's would sound hella fierce on a VH45.

Who needs nitrous?

Quella is IPQ, as any sun country G50 should be.

I've been wondering as the cost of fabbing headers is so high, what if you just have the stock manifold opened up? Looking at the Jegs cagalog, it seems like there are so many headers out there, something must be very close. Like the Mustang shorty's that are very compact would be sweet if they worked. Sounds good on the Q Greg, glad to hear you're gonna be keeping it.

We may look into fabbing up some headers, as I'll have a spare set of flanges... Making them both equal length AND fitting them in the available space will be the trick.

The exhaust plan is for 2.25" pipes to high-flow cats to a NASCAR-style X-pipe to dual resonators to a small dual-in dual-out Magnaflow.

The intake is already as efficient as I think I can get it, I have a large "scoop" under the bumper funnelled into 4" tubing attached directly to the bottom of the OEM airbox...

Anyone have a source for the high-stall converters?

Jeff, TK and I have been conversing by email - He has a couple new tricks up his sleeve for the Q, hit me off-board and I'll fwd you the emails.

The Q already has tubular steel headers. There's nothing to "open up".

No, the flange pattern is different.

A better question might be will the Impul VH41DE headers work on LH drive FY33?

No, they wont fint because of the PS pump being on the opposite side. That and the fact they cost nearly 2 g's. Better off to just have a set made I guess.

Increasing the compression is a possibility... Wonder what the effect would be.

Pump gas wouldnt really be an option..... AZ gas + hotness +increased compression = forget driving daily.

Yeah, it's almost crying for water/methanol injection with a WOT switch.

I'm thinking a torque converter, new trans, and free-flowing exhaust will be the ticket....

I am considering a new TC as well. What stall are you thinking of?

I need a beefed up transmission, but really am nervous about the Level 10. Are there other options? (psuedo-hijack).
