Hey guys .. just wonderin if there is anyone having the same probs as me?? I can get the truck up to about 65 mph TOPS!! and it slows way down goin up incline have to downshift to atleast third gear. Does this engine not have the power orriginally or is there something I can do to gain power? The engine is stock new exhaust, head gasket kit, high flow air filter, new plugs, cap & rotor, both coils are OK! maybe some tricks or something THANKS!!!

You should check the compression.

^ that

they are indeed low HP... but even before modding mine, it would climb hills on the highway at the posted speeds even at 7,500 ft above sea level

If your compression is low I would recoment doing a leak down test. That will tell you were its leaking. If your compression is fine I would check your ignition timming and see what your engine vaccume is at.

well.... it is a tad low but not bad per se

at 7000ft. you need high altitude tuning.... for the most part the '85 does this for you carb-wise via the mess of wires going to the carb.... other than that you can advance the hell out of the timing.... just make sure it doesn't start pinging and you're good

ok cool i did advance the tim ing to about 12 deg. not pinging maybe a lil more wouldnt hurt ?? what do u think... another thing kinda funny! i disconnected the coils while doin the comp test and one coil had arc shotting out and down the sides of the plug neck is that normal or a bad coil ??
