Man, Sony's Playstation store setup is abysmal. It's really, really bad. Totally unpolished, insanely needlessly convoluted, and broken. I hate it. I bought Echochrome a while back when the PSP still depended on download transfers from a PC or PS3 and it was a mess getting it to work on my PSP (which will randomly decide to work in USB mode depending on it's mood). Sony's authentication system is crap.
My problem this time was one of those issues where you go through the purchase process step-by-step and run into a new problem every time you manage to solve one. Testing the new PS Store XMB feature with the PSP, I downloaded Spyro the Dragon, the first PSX game I ever owned. Or I tried to. The store kept randomly hanging. Then I realized I had to add funds to my PS "wallet." A PITA on the idiotic phone-style keyboard the PSP uses (WHY?!), I put down the PSP for a while and used my PC.I needed to update my credit card info as my old credit card had expired.Sony's website/setup/design for account management looks like a retarded cow's first-semester computer science HTML project. And worse, it asks you to confirm every time you want to back out a level. Idiotic. There's also no logout button. And since the account management uses an ENTIRELY SEPARATE login authentication from the store, it kinda needs one.Anyway, once I got over the horrendous website design, I pulled out the card, punched in the numbers and..."Card info is invalid". I tried again. "Invalid". Third time, invalid. 4th invalid. Every time I tried small variations in name or address. No good.So I tried deleting the old card's info. It deleted fine. But the stupid site STILL showed my card as invalid. I tried more and more variations. I tried odd combinations of the address between the THREE (why 3?) address field lines. Nothing.FINALLY, after at least half an hour of screwing around with the damn billing info screen I got it to work. How'd I get it to work? I left my apartment number out completely. Wonderful. So not only is it not taking the right info, it IS taking the WRONG info. GREAT! I'm so glad that there are THREE address fields when using any but the first screws things up! What the HELL?
After that, I logged BACK into the store on the PSP (which is amazingly irritating, it can't just ask for a password and log you in. You have to press enter to proceed time after time after time, then watch multiple loading screens before you even get to the damn store) and downloaded the game.
Just my luck that (by no further fault of the PS Store) my memory stick appears to be busted. Even though I have 450megs free and the game needs 330-something, it won't let me install. Beautiful. Now I have to buy another memory stick just to play the game I already paid for. Yay.
I hate Sony so much. I used to be a HUGE Sony fan. But over the last few years I have grown to hate them so very much. I hate the company, I hate their attitude, I hate how they treat their customers, I hate their mindset, I hate how they do things...I really hate that company.
