Just got word that if an owner turns off the VDC or removes the trunk mat, it voids the warranty. Turning the VDC OFF can cause loss of driver life, what i was told. The trunk mat is designed to reduce the heat from the exhaust---car can catch fire if exhuast gets too hot. An oil change requires the removal of over 60 screws for the underbody, as i am told.

I had earlier posted that the brakes on the GTR will cost approximately 6K to replace---brakes and rotors. Spark plugs are about $50 a piece. GTR underbody is completely covered

And I beleive someone noted that the engine costs about $50K, while the transmission costs about $20K.

The GTR while fun to drive, is going to be hilarious to see how its owners can keep up with its cost of maintenance.

I believe these numbers are exagerated.

Someone will come out with much cheaper brakes. There are complete BBKs that cost less than that.

Magic spark plugs huh? Do they double as flash lights too?

It's all relative though.

Comparring the car to a 911 Turbo which has a maintenance cost of ? My guess a whole F*ing lot. I have not wanted to call Porsche and ask but turned up nothing useful. This is still in the Supercar range and will require Supercar maintenance.

The car takes special everything, from a four day class that only Nissan Masters can even think of signing up for. The oil is special Mobil 1, all fluids are synthetic and quite pricey.

The bottom of the car is similar to many other cars almost all Porsches even the ZO6 is almost completely covered by air directing body panels. The McLauren SLR Carbon Fiber body panels and I have been told by a happy owner that it needs to be sent to McLauren in England (shipped by ship) to have body repairs made.

It's an amazing car and I would love to see one in my garage but alas the total cost of ownership does not work in my favor. It still only has the standard Nissan warranty I think.

Whats a trunk mart?

That's what I thought and that just made me more confused. WTF kind of mat is it and why are they using that as insulation. I am sure there is a legit reason for it it seems odd though.

I would agree! Everything on the GTR must have a function.

I got to sit in one at the training facility and I dreamed about what driving to work, and tearing through the mountains at 130 would be like in this magnificent machine, and for a fleeting second I rationalized the cost of ownership, and rationalize just how many years I would to spend sleeping on the couch if I bought such a toy.

I think the design and style of this car have taken all the tings Nissan has done very well over the past few years mixed it with some video game style technology and made an awesome machine. Its an great in almost every aspect and I hope that they will adapt some of the race features to the upcoming G and Z lines. Of course it's going to have a few kinks for the first production run, all Nissans do.

Well said! I agree with you---I dream about the GTR sometimes---dreams are good for the soul.

I actually heard that the 350Z and G-35 Coupe were test beds for small aspects of the general technology and design philosophy of the GTR. Hence, the unbeleivable abuse and torture the 350z and G-35 coupe can handle. Yes, i think they will bring much of that technology to future G and Zs.

Don't believe everything you hear.

mygtr.com sources claim that:

"it appears to be that if VDC is off and during that period when you use launch control or any other activities and the transmission or other parts failed, you will have to pay for fix yourself which making sense to me."

Supposedly this is a response worded from Nissan.

They also claim that the best runs were done with VDC"R" turned on. If that is the case, then the GTR remains king!!!

Trunk Mat, from nissangtrclub.com:

"the trunk thing is not removable. Its part of the trunk floor carpet. This stuff in the manual is probably to deter you from modifying your trunk and pulling the carpet. You can feel that it is thick and has some type of material layered in it to deaden the noise or heat.. although the trunk does get hot regardless."

One guy claims that aftermarket exhaust doesn't heat up this area as badly, allowing you to remove it... but I don't see the need to remove carpeting in this car. It's not like it is slow

Besides, I don't see what the big deal is about voiding the warranty. People who payed almost as much for a Motorex R34 have no warranty

Thanks for the clarifications. All I can do is digest the awesomeness of the GTR in speech and hearing, until one day I am blessed with my own GTR. Until, I am going to dream like a Pirate about the GTR.

I would say that if you can afford the car, you can afford the maintenance cost.

On a side note...this car was in Lenox mall:

bump huh? like this thread was dying? maybe he is tryin to fill his 10 post quota??

Anyways, I think its ridiculous to think that if you buy a car like the GTR that you won't have to pay those crazy amounts to keep it in tip top shape. It just comes with the territory.

Nice Maserati

Just found out that the 4 tires of the GTR are about $5,000. I just saw the car for the first time, and the picture do not do the car any justice at all. The car is lower than the G and it looks mean and beautiful.

My mechanic had test driven the car and he said, the car is a toy and not a daily driver. The car is violent (jerks a lot and chatters) and its acceleration is completely unbeleivable.

Thats right!

My mechanic said before he could pull out of a gas station, the car had already shifted twice, and was in third gear. For the twin clutch system in the car, one clutch handles gears 1, 3, and 5, and the second clutch handles gears 2, 4, and 6. This car is a technological marvel.

No way Yellow on a car like that that has three types of silver. Its unnatural. LOL good old personal taste. I think the red is a bit much too for the GT-R though.

Now if it came in R34 blue that would be a different story.
