Welp, my new CAS didn't solve the problem. It did wipe out the constant code 11 coming in, but now I'm getting a constant 12. So I ran her and at 2 grand the fun ends. Runs fine, but has trouble finding itself so the idle shifts. Tried playing around with connectors, etc... Found that when I unplug the MAF nothing happens, and the engine runs no differently while being on limp home. Bingo. I'm going to do some tests on the MAF and connector tomorrow to confirm, but the comp still runs a constant 12. I'll have to see if the MAF is getting power. It's amazing the MIL never turns on, I know it works. This is a stubborn old b1tch of a car. The new CAS sure is pretty, anyhow...

When playing with the MAF the black/white wire just slipped right on out of the connector, fixed it. Car runs beautifully. Also bypassed in-radiator transmission cooler and added an in-line transmission filter.

Please tell us you added an external transmission cooler along with the in-line filter when you bypassed the in-radiator cooler!

Yes, hills and mountains around Seattle will get the ATF temperature up quickly.

Years ago we did an experiment on a 200k Q and just replacing the CAS increased torque and HP by 3-4% due to the old CAS wear and dirt/oil causing spark scattter*. The seals seem to fail allowing oil vapor with dirt to get inside eventually.

The 45/90 degree system is immune but the 1 degree is sensitive to dirt/optical blockage.

Never seen a high mileage Q that wasn't better with a brand new CAS, but typical owners might not notice mild improvements.

* on a V8 the ideal spark is 90 degrees after previous spark. Accuracy is important as a few degrees off can decrease power.
