1- is there a different sensor for for the aux cooling fan to trigger it at a lower temp. ?

2- I was stuck in traffic 1 hour for 3 miles, amb temp read 102 - 108, a/c was cranking frozen knuckle style, and my thermostat gague had risen just 1/8 inch below the BAD zone, I realize this was an extreme situation but is it normal ?

3- As on a different thread I notice that my a/c does not really kick in until i am moving it will blow cold in park but does not crank until rpm's are brought up

What kind of Q is this?

#2 - Every vehicle has a limit to how long it can safely idle under load in hot weather. Old/clogged radiator, sticking thermostat, bad/cheap radiator cap, old fan clutch, and probably other things can cause this problem.

James has a 95 Q

1. No, not to my knowledge2. As long as the temp went down after you were underway, id say its nothing to worry about. HOWEVER, at that time you should have definitely had your condensor fan on!3. Could be a myriad of things...

DId you ever have your mechanic hook it up to a manifold gauge set? If the system has been recharged and the high side just isnt high enough its possible your compressor is worn out.

yes wes at that point the fan was onnew radiatormy compressor has a faulty internal valve that has been hotwired to remain open thus i am receiving cold air.fan clutch ? u mean the thermastatically controled large cooling fan??he hooked up the gages and was all good.remember amb temp was 108 deg.

Q45Tech explained heat soak not long ago. IIRC the Q system is barely stable -soaks easily when everything isn't perfect.

Might be worth a search...

I would say that anything above 3 o'clock on the temp. gauge is cause for concern on the Q.

When I replaced the plenum hoses last month, I drained block and refilled with 50/50 AF water [what was handy]..........LATER Noticed some ping when it hit 90F after a hot 15 minute idle soak........temp got above 210F.

Drained and refilled with 20% AF and water and Redline WW and special BG coolant anticorrosion additive: tested again under nearly identical conditions..........the temp dropped 7- 8F.

Now I have a special [with 128k/6yr on it] all aluminum larger capacity radiator [extra quart of volume] so unsure of the effects with oem sized unit.

Every single degree is important when the coolant gets above 194F as it does with AC on.

i do not know the exAct capacity of my radiator but was told it held a greater volume than stock - What r u suggesting?thanksjamesEvery single degree is important when the coolant gets above 194F as it does with AC on.

Not suggesting anything just reporting............current status.Very important to monitor actual head output coolant temperature to see what ecu sees in making its calculations.........and not let it rise above 194F if you care about performance and long term durabilty.

I've recently started running Royal Purple Ice coolant/anti-freeze additive initially only on my J and now on all the vehicles that I own. I've noticed my vehicles runs less hot than before. You may want to try it.

You can only do so much with pure water [plus corrosion additives/pump lubricants] vs 50/50 AF...............after 7-8 years [120k] you change the radiator to restore as new cooling.

Old engines don't CREATE more heat from burning identical amount of gasoline [probably less- ring wear/loss of compression].

The rad just declines in efficiency [corrosion/bent fins] and the fan, rubber surrounds, condenser lose there as new air directing handling efficiency.

Don't blame on old engine accept blame for not maintaining as new, with NEW replacement parts!

And you cannot use Global Warning as an excuse either.
