Moonroof operation

Hi All,
I just noticed something peculiar about the moonroof operation. From a closed position when I press the slide open button, it tilts up, then down, then slides open?

When I hit the slide close button the moonroof does the opposite. In other words, it slides closed, tilts up, the tilts down into the closed position.

Seems like the tilt motion is unnecessary. Is this abnormal? Thanks.

My 2010 does it the same way.
