Starting to notice on my 2009 with 1800 miles, that since getting cooler outside but still parked in garage and temp around 40 deg that when I open the moon roof shade it opens smoothly until there is about another 1 1/2" to open it stops or drags, almost like it has a clutch of some sort that is weak in the winde mechanism.Once the interior warms up its fine.Anyone else seen this? cant belive it would work at all here when it really gets cold for our normal 10 above to 30 below zero winter. Thanks

I had this happen once or twice last winter. It stopped at about 1.5" from full open then snapped the rest of the way. I think the moon roof shade is on a spring roller much like a pull down window shade you'd have in your home. It's probably just grease in a roller sticking due to the extreme cold. Unless mine starts doing it on a regular basis I'm not worrying about it.

I live in San Antonio, and bought my 09 in May. Since then I don't think it has ever gotten below 70 degrees, even at night. And mine does the same thing. I find that the first time I open it, about 50% of the time it sticks, exactly where you are describing. A little push on it and it slides the rest of the way in. But If close then open it again, it doesn't do it. So I assume it is likely a lubrication issue. It has not been a big enough deal for me to bring it in for service yet. Since I can't get a loaner, I will probably wait until there is another issue that I HAVE to get fixed under warranty until I take it in.

Have to agree, I was going to see if I was to have other issues and keep a list for all things to have checked all at one time, unless it does it all the time when temp gets and stays cold the nwill take in.Thanks all!

I just went through the same thing. The whole sunroof had to be replaced. Apparently the shade mechanism cannot be replaced by itself.

My 09 LE AWD has been doing it for a year now.. looks to be below 50 degrees.. I also have a water leak somewhere in the left upper corner of the interior.. scheduled to have both looked at in DEC 09

I am having the same issue....only now, the shade has stopped opening completely. It started with only opening 3/4ths of the way, and has now just stopped. I took it into the dealership and they said that they had to reset it which requires them to take the entire thing apart....but, because they didn't have to replace anything my warranty wouldn't cover it. Ridiculous. Has anyone had any luck fixing this problem on their own?
