Monthly Poll-August

Steve here posting Gabriel’s monthly poll since he’s 3,600 miles away.

Infiniti vehicles are great. But like all vehicles, they have their share of problems and glitches. Some of us here have had little to no problems. Perry has had one for every year he’s been alive ( ) and some of us have been about average. Like a dead fly in your last meal or a homeless guy asking for money, lets put our vehicle issues aside for this poll and give a simple one to ten rating of how happy you’ve been with your G, stating what would make it a perfect ten. For me, I just wish it was a little more refined, and was RWD so I could enjoy better mpg and acceleration and other benefits from dropping 150lbs. Other than that, and maybe the second series G35 body or the Aero kit available for the first series, and I would be fully satisfied with my G. Since I am not, I rate it an 8. If I had a G37 however, I don’t know how I couldn’t give it an 11 or so, since the few minutes I have spent in one were as exciting as winning the lottery while riding my favorite rollercoaster with nothing but bikini clad supermodels trying to take me home with them. If you don’t have a G, rate what you do have. We would like to hear from the other Infiniti owners as well.

And now for our Caption Contest winner:Congratulations goes to:

I give the G Coupe a 9. If it had the acceleration of the Viper I drove several years ago it would get that 11. The G Coupe fits me so much better than any of the stangs I've owned in the past. The driving experience for me is also much better.Again, just needs a little more HP.

I also give the G Sedan a 9. It has been a great sports sedan!!! What would push it to 10....a little more mpg....and hp.

Ok I'm speaking for my G and not for the G37 ..

The dash lighting..Orange *blah*

Need more get up and go, like you said it needs to shed some weight.

I find it damn near impossible to reach something that falls between the seat and middle console eg - my cell phone fell between there last week and I didn't have a hope in hell reaching it, so I moved the seat which then crushed my cellphone. I had to buy a new one

The seat belts always come out of the shoulder loop. Yes I know I can use black tape to correct that...but I shouldn't have to.

The ever so easy to chip paint.

I also HATE the tabs/hooks for the hangers. I always pick up my dry cleaning, hang it, and by the time I'm home, it's all crumpled on the seat because it fell off the hook.

This car SHOULD have air conditioned seats and heated steering wheel Hell, my 03 Maxima had the heated steering wheel.

That's all that comes to mind right now..I know some are small and I may be nitpicking...but you asked!

I voted 8 for my G Sedan. I had to have the transmission worked on at 25,000 miles so I took off a point for that. I love driving my car and it looks great. But I must say to G whizz "Ditto, ditto, ditto" Thanks for typing all that so I did not have to! Even my wife said "Orange is ugly."

I voted good because of the comment after fair.

Reliability is terrible for this expensive of a car. I think the electrical system is over complicated for what it does when it comes to basic items such as starting the car, headlights, etc. that rely on very expensive components.

I find the interior quality lacking since my drivers seat is wearing on the piping with only 14k on the odometer. I don't like the basketball skin for the interior. This cheapens the interior considerably and I don't care how it compares to a previous Infiniti, what matters is how it compares to other vehicles in its target group.

The restrictions for the various selections on the display for navigation and hard drive (when moving) doesn't make any sense at all when you consider that the iPod is basically wide open at any time.

I hate the paint, far too soft. The tires do not have the grip they should for an high performance AWD although the AWD still makes a good statement in poor weather conditions.

The doors will rattle at high volume settings with the standard Bose system. Easy to fix but due to cost of the option should be taken care of at the factory.

Infiniti service from local dealer is poor as evident by poor troubleshooting skills present and far away too expensive for non warranty work, in some cases double that of the local Nissan dealer for the same exact work using the same exact components.

Other than that everything is just peachy.

I voted a 7 but I'm in the 6 comment class. I've been in a G coupe for 7 years and frankly I'm all couped out. About 2 weeks ago the dealership I deal with had some lightly optioned FX35s on close out. I made an offer but after the first contact I didn't hear from them again. Even if the offer was lowball I still expected them to at least call me back and laugh. Oh well!

I would have voted an 8 for my G37 because it is a vastly better car than my 03 G. I have had absolutely no problems with the G37 other than the disaster with the airbag sensor recall. Infiniti and the dealership did not cover themselves in glory handling that. My 03G was an accessory disaster (windows, seat assemby, and HU all multiple times) but fun enough to drive to entice me to buy another.

I love the performance and the styling but after 7 years I'm tired of the choppy ride. I want something to haul more stuff and more people. I'm ready to move on.

My G also beats my previous vehicle. A 92 Lexus ES300 5 speed manual.

In over 3 1/2 years and almost 94k miles two TPMS were relaced, one drivers side air bag control module, and two weeks ago a clutch slave cylinder was replaced to correct a sticky clutch pedal all under warranty.

My MPG has improved. My last 17 fillups over 6k miles have all been over 24MPG.

My G is a gem

My rating is 9 out of 10. I selected a G37S after driving an assortment of cars including Porsches and BMWs. The G37 outscored all of them. The only thing I would change would be to make the car 10% smaller. It's predecessor was a first generation RX-7 and it has taken a while for me to get used to the G37's larger size.

I give my G35 a 9! If not for my headlight problems I would have given it a 10. I upgraded recently and have not been dissapointed. My last car was a 99 Chrysler Concorde with 306,000 miles. Yes, I put about 270,000 of them on it myself. I only hope the G35 holds up as well.

I also gave my G a 9. I love the car, but I have more chips in my paint then my 14 year old Camaro has.

I did as you guys said and manually shifted my transmission for a while and now it really doesn't bother me by bogging the engine like it used to.

I have only had my car a year (almost to the date!) so I might not be a good representative. I do love the car though. Plenty of HP for me since I'm not going to be taking it to the track anyway.

I have a 99 300m with just over 150,000. Total time in the shop 3 days which included planned front brake replacement, timing belt replacement, and water pump done at the same time as timing belt.

2008 xs, not so good. At 13,500 had been in the shop for 16 days for the same problem with just under 8 hours of warranty work actually done. Damaged 3 times by the dealer, again not so good.

At 150,000 with the same plugs, the gas mileage is still what it has always been which is virtually the same as the 'G' in both city and highway.

The Concorde had original engine and transmission. Only work ever done was on the A/C. Other than that, just regular maintenance. Hoping for the same out of my Infiniti.

got a 2005 G35x here:

My two biggest concerns are the RWD and stock navigation system. I truly dispise the "enter" button. I really wish I could replace it. RWD vs FWD is only for MPG purposes, but that cost difference is marginal.

The main issue here is that each person bought their G for various reasons. Some bought it for performance, some bought it for luxury, others bought it for handling, and many others probably bought it just so that they could mod it.

Much like our girlfriends (or boyfriends), the next car (person) people buy (get involved with) solves a problem or two with their previous one (but that's not to say that it newer problems will not arise).

You have to look at your purchase to see if your objective was satisfied.

For me, personally, I bought this car to replace my wife's Toyota Corolla (I gave her my SUV). I wanted a roomier car with AWD. Thus, I decided on the G (when compared to the Ford Fusion and BMW 3 series) because the G performed better than the Ford Fusion and it was less expensive that the BMW.

But all in all, I have been very satisfied with my G (had it for a year now), as I would certainly recommend this car to anyone looking for an AWD mid-size sedan that handles great, performs great, and is reliable.

I voted "8"

Major flaws:

-Paint durability terrible. Had to repaint the front bumper.

-Clutch: Clutch very small engagement, sticks to the floor unless you replace the clutch. If you replace the dual-mass flywheel with a solid flywheel, it will make more noise. There's no reason a $40k should sound like a cement mixer!

-Transmission: Replaced after 30k miles due to rough 2nd gear engagement and a "humming" noise.

-OEM tires: Noisy and terrible wear...only lasted 13k miles.

-Front drivers' seat controls in a bad spot...can cause a sore leg on extended trips.

-Not enough HP...should offer a model with 400.

I voted Good, not great.

I fell in love with the body styling and the balanced weight distribution back in 03 when the first coupe came out.

After driving one for the past year and a half the car dissapoints me. Handling is questionable. Part of me misses my car being able to "pull" itself out of hairline situations.

Acceleration is WAY too variable. Sometimes it causes whiplash, other times it feels slower than the Prius in the next lane.

Fuel economy SUCKS!!! I've been averaging 16-18 mpg with 23 being the best highway.

The doors piss me off beyond belief. Why can't they stay open on their own? I don't care that the doors were reinforced for safety. The doors are heavier than 90s bimmer doors (and those things stayed open on their own).

I also miss having a sedan. I can't stand the way the first gen sedans look so that wasn't an option. The newer sedans are much nicer looking, but still suffer from some of the aforementioned issues.

i give my 2005 G35x a 9

i have had NO PROBLEMS at all in the year i have had it... and I dont baby this car at all...

It didnt get a 10 because of minor stuff like the seatbelt not always recoiling back up when i get out of the car... or the huge amount of brake dust since the 2005 G35x has the 03/04 brakes...

This car is on track to be on par with the reliability of my jeep which has over 250k miles and still spinning tires at will

I dont see my self trading this car... i will probably have this car til the engine wont start... i couldnt bare my self to trade my jeep for the g35x cause the jeep has been so good to me... my g35x is on track to recieve the same honor.

I rated mine an 8 but it should be a 6...

I have had lots of problems with my G... Head unit, 2 trans, 1 clutch, 1 motor, squeaks and rattles,

I just love the car tho!

I gave it an 8 of 10.

I like the styling. Love the reliability...I've havd very few issues and nothing I couldn't take care of myself. I think its been a lot of fun to drive and thats probably attributed largely to the fact that I have dumped money into mods for this car. But it has been great.

I have 146K miles on my car now, and it still runs like a champ.

I dislike the door trim which has peeled back on me several times. I hate the BOSE stereo which I replaced shortly after I bought the car.Mostly, I hate that the ECU on the early 2003's were not the same as later years.

I voted 8, probably could have gone down to a 7.

Hate the paint, which is a critical part down the road. I don't even want to take care of it anymore. I haven't waxed it at all this year and I used to do it once a month.

Well it seems everyone is overall pretty happy with their G. We'll see how the results change when the 03 and 04 models have been traded in by you guys for the 09 and 10 models.

yeah, yeah, I know. I have not had the g37 convertible long enough for my opinion to count for much but.... I gave it an 11. Trade in whatever you have and buy this car! Oh, and I gave it an 11 even though I had it in the shop 2 days after I bought it. I still like the back end of the g37 coupe a lot more, but..... yeah its still an 11.

'09 G37X sedan here with 5k miles. Gave it a 7. No big problems yet, but the ride and handling are not up to par with the German cars I have had and they were not very expensive ones. Love the body style and engine power. Hate the lack of folding rear seat, no power outlet in trunk, tiny battery that has left me needing a jump start twice, choppy ride and relatively numb steering. Just picky I guess.

The seat backs on the coupe fold down for access to the trunk, not sure how the sedans work. With the battery, you either have a bad battery or an electrical issue.
