Its that time again! This Month's poll regards your pocket and your G.How much money have you spent (about) on your G in Performance Mods? Some of us have spent our first-born's college savings fund in getting that turbo kit or flux capacitor installed. Some of us (howard) have not spent a shiny penny in anything at all. If you have mods courtesy of a five finger discount, feel free to use your "value" as an answer. The performance parts intustry is a 10 billion dollar a year business. So it is clearly evident that many people want to have a unique vehicle and modify it the same way women want to modify their closets for hundreds of shoes and clothing items they may only use once. We modify our homes and such. We spend so much time in our cars that we want the experience of driving tailored to our desires and monthly net income allowance. So how about it? How much cash have you thrown into your car? Enough to make you happy? Want more? Unleash into pitiful tears in the driveway before your morning commute? Personally, I've spent $180. On a Stillen intake. The FX/Gcoupe midpipe was free, the Cosworth lightweight high compression pistons were just a mirage, and the second series sedan muffler was a warranty courtesy from a co-worker. No other mods have been done, though a Kinetix manifold and Stillen y-pipe are in the near future. Now for the moment most of you have been waiting for. The Winner....Of last weeks Caption contest... I'm under $500, but once I get my new Polk db speakers installed, that'll jump. And once I finally buy my DVD/GPS DD and the kit and all, I'll be up there.

Some day that repaint will come, too. Does that count as a mod?

No mods for this year... Just enjoying my G the way it is...

Next Spring I will be looking to get the S front end and possibly some really expensive deep dish rims... Saw a set I liked but the price was ridicoulously outrageus and completly stupid purchase but they look unbefreakinlievable... I can't seem to remember the name of the manufacturer right now... I will look it up...

Found em' Not sure if I would really add the color to match the paint of the car... Might just keep it chrome and highlight the ASANTI on the rim...

These are mondo expensive but I am in love with them... 19's would be sweet for the summer.

i have spent a little over $2000 in mods in the year i have had my G35x

just brought new tires for $750, TOYO Versado LX 235/50-R17

in nov ill be getting some gtspec bracing as a birthday/x-mas present to my self. As soon as i find a used coupe mid pipe i will buy that.

next year i plan on upgrading my headset to a double din touch screen, navi, rear camera system. then if i get tired of looking for a used coupe mid pipe ill probably just buy it new. an engine damper is still on my list, still thinking about a lighten crank pulley.

when i need brakes again... i'm upgrading to steel brake lines and "dustless" pads... if there is extra money to spend i might do a front rotor upgrade to slotted rotors... thats about all i want to do to the car for now...

oh and i still havent got a timing advance yet...

haha thats also true, but my thought was the money we spent on mods. i dont think engine replacement would be considered a mod, unless it was a engine swap.

but with that into consideration i have spent a good $30,000 into my car with parts and labor.

OH SHEET. thats a lot of money. its like crack.

I would consider 'out with the old in with the new' to be a mod.

Are the hoses silicone? How did you connect the oil cooler?

Yes, they are silicon. Blue.

I connected the oil cooler via a thermostatic oil sandwich adapter. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HDA-243/With this adapter you must use a larger oil filter to ensure proper seal. Also, I had to lathe the adapter bolt down about 3/8 of an inch to make it seal properly.

I drilled a few holes in the bottom of the radiator support for the oil lines to travel without having a change of scraping and keeping the install as clean as possible.

I have the oil cooler mounted in front of the radiator on the driver side.

These are two of the mods I have been thinking of. The hoses to me are for appearance but if silicone in my experience will probably out last the originals so in the long run are probably beneficial and cost effective. The oil cooler allows one to go longer safely between oil changes if set up correctly. I have been looking at maybe a partial bypass filter (for its filtering benefits) which does expose one to possible catastrophic failure if no other mechanisms are in place to detect an issue. The external oil cooler allows this arraignment or other options.

Many don't understand partial bypass but basically it allows for much finer particle filtration. The negative is that in many setups a failure of a part can lead to a major failure due to passing it on into the lubrication stream. This of course is why many don't like bypass valves present in stock filters but my conclusion is some oil flow is better than none. To me for the average driver this is the best stock setup. The external cooler allows one to either run a non bypass filter with a bypass line that you can sense flow through. This allows a filter to plug up and still provide flow through a line that can have a warning alarm on it. In like manner if using a partial bypass filter such a line can have various forms of detection and if desired can even have a second filter on it to stop propagation of a failure.

I consider this a very good mod that can be installed in its simplist form and allows expansion in whatever direction one desires.
