I have a 2007 M45 sport. I have read through all the posts regarding finding suspension for this car however I have not heard anyone mention the Monroe shocks. These say they are direct fit for base and sport model. Any ideas if these are sufficient replacement?? The KYB's are saying base only.

base only refers to all non awd cars. The KYB will bolt right up to all four corners as long as the car is not an X. Having said that Monroe should be comparable to KYB; however, I would suggest (uninformed) that KYB would be a higher quality product. I could have it wrong but I am sure that either system will be more than serviceable.

Good luck and let us know what you decide

Thanks for the reply. I think I am going to hold off on the monroes. I am trying to avoid paying the $200 per shock OEM cost but do not want to loose too much of my ride in the sport model. When I do it I will most likely go with the KYB's or possibly coilovers.

Coil overs are good, expensive and will take some tunning to get it right, you will need to do all four corners if you go with coil over.

MSvara did a great write up on coil overs or his M35X. Listed the many steps he took to dial in the ride height, and rebound control.

Look him up

I ordered the Monroe struts and shocks from Auto Parts Warehouse yesterday. Compared to the OEM struts/shocks listed on InfinitiPartsUSA.com, they are less than half as expensive! I hate to think what the dealer cost would be. I will have them installed by a local shop. I'll post my impressions once the new parts are installed. At 93,400 miles, the original Sport shocks are feelin their age. I'm looking forward to a better ride and handling.

Ain't hear many great reviews bout Monroe's...
Decided KYBs as by word of mouth being better quality. I got base 06 M35 sport (135K)

Got my set of 4 for $240 on amazon. Installing this wk. Will keep posted on how they feel too. Dealer was looking for over $900 in my location (NYC)

Besides, KYB has that good lifetime warranty. Definitely helped me to think long term as you should.

How did you guys like your Monroe or KYB shocks? I have an 06 M45 85k miles, eibach lowering springs. I replaced the stock springs with monroe springs in the front and kept the stock on the rear. I'm not too happy with the ride and think it's due to the monroe springs not being as stiff as I would like them to be with a lowered suspension. I think the stock sport setup was much more stable. I'm debating on trying out a pair of kyb's to see if there is any difference but if not, I'll probably end up putting the stock springs back on and selling the lowering springs. The next option for me would be a coilover suspension but I doubt I'll spend that much on the setup. Let me know how the kyb's feel.

Just so you know, KYB "lifetime warranty" does not cover normal wear and tear, but it does against workmanship or defects. So don't think that once they wear out in 60-100k miles that you can take them off and get a free set... :)

I'm having my new Monroe struts and shock installed Wednesday. I'll give a report in the next day or two.

I had Monroe shocks on a previously lowered car on springs and they were a great set compared to the original. They also lasted for the remaining life of the car which was 4 years.
