Yeah, I heard about this at my audio install shop today... sucks!!!! Funny thing is, I'm sure some of the cops are guys like Eric that are also car enthusiasts... but when your comanding officer gives you a task, you have to do it... I'm sure some of the cops thought it was jacked up, but hey, what can you do?

thats pretty ridiculous. how can they label it as a street racing venue WHEN THERE IS NO STREET RACING. i don't necessarily condone street racing but around where i live real street racers with their supras and stuff haul A down main roads, but i have never seen the police do anything about it, buts that South Carolina i guess. i guess cali police are different (obviously). guys around here i know get away with 5% tint all the way around and other stuff that the owners got nailed for over there, yet no one says anything. they need to get their priorities right over there and here in SC.

dude tell me about it. i wasn't even in that parking lot but they had motorcycle cops out and around everywhere so pulled me over and made me pop the hood. they ended up giving me a ticket for a "modified exhaust and modified intake" when both the exhaust and intake came from the factory. no i gotta go see the state referee. they had the whole area shut down with police trailers news teams the whole nine.

This is all you have to know about the article:

"If you're not into street racing, why would you need that?" Riverside Police Traffic Sergeant Skip Showalter asked an enthusiast during a similar crackdown last year. "Why would you want more power going to your car?"

Idiocy. Pure and simply idiocy.

This is like saying "why would you need a gun, if not to shoot someone?" I'm actually trying to think of a more outrageous claim, but I can't. Hisquote simply takes the cake for ignorance, arrogance, and outright power abuse.

I simply cannot stand the thought of this. Then again, they need to make revenue some how, right?

They cant hold a single one of these tickets because they were in a private parking lot and not mobile. Who's to say they didn't get their cars dropped off by tow trucks/trailers and they will be picked up at the end of the night? They don't have to be street legal at Hot Import Nights do they? So how is this any different if no cars were mobile? I would fight these to the very end

It was probably just some dumb cop trying to be smart that made that remark, I wouldn't take it to be the view of the whole police force that was there to shut them down.

Unfortunately California cops can be ridiculously strict.

In my last truck (2005 Nissan Titan) I got pulled over twice for tinted windows, too tall of a lift, no mud flaps...blah, blah, blah. Granted, my truck did not meet the california requirements. The truck did have limo tint, it was not too tall...I carried around a tape measure to prove it haha. But, there were a few things that broke "the law." The thing that really bothered me about it though is that both times I got pulled over I was sitting at stop lights. It's not like I was driving lik a jerk. I wasn't really doing anything wrong.

This is completely ridiculous that the cops were busting these people for "street racing." Especially considering there were news cameras and other forms of media all around and no one mentioned having any evidence of them actually racing. Last I checked there were no laws against parking unless the management of the parking lot called the cops for loitering, in which case the cops are allowed into the lot.

But, at the end of the day...We do have a problem with street racing in California. I personally disagree with street racing. I think it is very unsafe and in my opinion unnecessary. I know I will offend some people when I say this but. Take it to the track. I know there are very few tracks in California and that is a bigger problem but it just isn't worth it to kill innocent people because you need an adrenaline fix.

A guy I went to high school with is locked up for 25 years right now because he was drag racing down a city street and killed two innocent people. A husband and wife simply driving to dinner. Personally I think 25 years is too light...He shouldn't be allowed back out in my opinion. If you need to get a speed fix then take your car to auto cross events, drag strips, California speedway...but keep it off the streets.

Just throwing in my worthless opinion...haha

I agree with you on the fact that street racing is very bad, but 25 years seems like a suitable punishment. The whole point of the prison system is for reform. If the guy you went to high school with learned his lesson, and spent 25 years in jail, then i think he should be allowed out, only if he truly learned that street racing is wrong.

They should be glad that we were there sharing a good hobby, cars, instead of out causing some real damage. Damage that im sure others were causing, but they want to send more than 100 hundred cops to a parking lot full of guys causing no trouble. Doesn't make sense

I think there's a time and a place for everything IMO. I'm not saying it's smart to street race anywhere but I think there is places more suitable than others. (I.E. don't drag race through a city with a stop light at every corner..etc...) I've only raced once since I've had my car and I was on Interstate 4 in FL but that's just my view.

I should have explained his situation more but I did not want to deter from the rest of my post.

This particular guy (trying to choose my words kindly) was driving on a suspended driver's license because he had just received a DUI where he totalled his other M3 a few month's prior...His rich grand parents bought him another M3 (which is the car he was driving when he killed the husband and wife.) Then after hitting them and seeing they were dead, he jumped back in his car and raced home. Literally leaving an oil trail from the scene of the accident to his front door and leaving the totalled car in his driveway.

The cops found him hiding under his bed...

Obviously this guy is just a coward and does not act like most performance minded people. I was simply trying to say that street racing is not worth other people's lives. If you want to put your own life at risk, make sure you're doing it in suitable areas like race tracks.

I am not trying to say that racing is dangerous so don't do it...That would be pretty hypocritical considering my families history hahaha. I personally have dirtbikes, race cars, and other desert toys. I LOVE racing, and I LOVE living on the edge...but I do it in places where I won't hurt anyone else. If I take myself out that's fine. But I couldn't live with myself if I took out an innocent bystander.

Hey Thannatos, I heard they are starting to give mob tickets to car clubs hanging out at streets of woodfield. You hear anything about this? That would suck bc a lot of people go there to cruise and meet up with other car guys.

Saw that on the news this morning, that's jacked up. Hope they don't do anything like that at the Stillen event!

We have been putting on these shows for YEARS and we have never had this problem. We rent the street from the city so they don't have the jurisdiction, they would have to get you when they leave.

But, we also work closely with all the local cops, we let them train their K-9's in our back yard and set them up with special prices...They take care of us.

However, there are sometimes cops hanging around the corners for speeders or guys doing burn outs when they leave...Just drive smart and they won't bother you.

Speaking of these things...

I got pulled over going to college today, for no front plates and window tint.

Yay!

I only have 35% front... I will take it off, get it signed, and get 20% for the front. The only point of me getting 35% was to be inconspicuous. f*** that now.

ok this pisses me off too even tho it comes from the factory and is a performance part why should those be legal but the aftermarket ones not? i agree you shouldnt be in trouble, but its just another hole in their logic.

this is the second time i have seen/read about a cop saying a remark like this and it is one of the most ignorant coments i have ever heard.

i think this whole tuner culture crack down is gonna have serious backlash on the governments if they dont lighten up. people only take so much of their freedoms being trashed on before they assembly/organize and take proper legal actions to **** the state. people in my state can carry a gun with a license, yet cant modify their car too much in certain areas or they wont pass a smog test..... ****in stupid.

also on a side note why do i have to log in again everytime i comment on a altima thread?

So far I've been stopped in City of Industry and Arcadia. City of Industry it was... Tint, No Front Plate, and 'No proof of insurance'. Arcadia it was no front plate because I had my windows down. Just go 5%... if you're going to get stopped... you're going to get stopped.

This is crazy. Some of the cops that were at this 'sting' are from my city. Baldwin Park Police.
