momentary button on alarm system

I would like to know how can I check if the momentary button switch is normally open or normally closed?

I went to radio shack to buy a replacement & guessed on the momentary open one... I'd like to know for sure before I disconnect the battery & rewire a new one on there...

this is pushed while the key is on & you flip a toggle while holding the switch down to disable the alarm (valet mode).

The button is broken, sooo I have no way of telling... Thanx in advance for your help.
