My 2001 Pathfinder 2wd is throwing a P0138 which is aparently the passenger side bottom 02 sensor.

Has anyone had good luck changing the 02 sensor and clearing the code? Is the connector hard to get to, I could not follow it up in my engine bay from the bottom I couldnt see where it connects.

Me and my husband are trying to get this car nice for our son for college

Also, is it possible to simply clean the 02 sensor while we wait for the part? Maybe cut the wire, take the sensor off, clean it in gasoline (Ive read it helps), then reinstall and solder wire together? Or can you not solder 02 wires?

Thanks boys!!

First thing clear the code and see if it comes back, if it does then I'd see about changing it. Cutting the leads to clean it then soldering it back on the leads isn't a good idea. It would be a good idea to change the other lower sensor as well even if it's "good". Since it's older than the new one on the other side the different minor tolerances between the new and "good" sensor might cause the ecu to read a problem and throw a C.E.L(check engine light).

If the dealership is telling you the sensor is bad...run. They'll likely overcharge for the sensor and install labour.

The code returns. I want to replace the sensor. I just cannot find a part number, the connector on which to disconnect it from the engine harness.

Is oem necessary or has anyone had good results with any other brands?

Stay OEM, i forgot but someone else has tried the universal type and ran into problems. I would stick with OEM.

There's a reason why it threw a code so just clearing it is not fixing anything. If your vehicle is telling you there's a problem don't ignore it. Contact Mark Brinster at Victory Nissan - [email protected]. Give him your VIN and he'll get the right part for you. I pulled this pic from the FSM for the '01 QX4 on page EC-263(Engine Control Section) of the FSM which can be downloaded in this thread How To's: Yours should be identical.

thank you very much for that picture, I know exactly where that connection is.

Thank you for the dealer reference to, I think I will buy it from a Nico vendor though, need to keep places like this alive, its such a valuable resource

I also wasnt clearing the code in hopes it would stay off. I also have a check valve error code that is frustrating me, since I seem to be missing the hose.

Could you possibly help me with that?? Since yours is an 01 aswell it would possibly be the exact same. All I need to know is where the vacuum hose connects to on the engine.

p1165-can-someone-tell-me-where-vacuum- ... 18951.html

Its aparently specific to 01's.

Thanks again for the picture, very helpful!!!
