Molding eyelids to hood

Hey guys,

Seemingly some of you have molded plastic eye lids to our aluminum hoods - which looks tight, because everytime I look at a car with eyelids, I couldn't help noticing there black gap.

Question is how to do it? It is even possible to weld / mold aluminum to plastic?

Please, fire away your inputs.

Bondo, perhaps? or fabricate a metal piece identical to the eyelids, weld, sand, primer and paint.

That's what I was thinking. But you'd think that the, without the eyelids, the hood is perfectly flush with the headlight housing. Now if you add a piece to the hood, right on top of the housing to cover it, the hood may no longer be able to close properly?

That piece that you're trying to weld to the hood will stick out higher that the headlight housing. That's just how eyelids are.

Yeah unfortunately (not really, since I like PPW) my car is white, so without welding / molding, the gap will always be visible.

I'll see what my bodyshop guy has to say. Thanks guy for the input!

Aggressive? hahahahhahhahahhahahahhahahahhahahahahah.....Just looks like your car is pissed off coz the owner keeps buying it worthless "mods" instead of getting new tires.

You 2 may be friends, I don't know. But I agree with him that eyelids, especially molded ones, do make the Z look like it's pissed. See the new SL65 Black for example.

There's no such thing as a worthless mods. Everybody mod cars for different reasons, some for performance, others for looks, and of course, a few people mod for BOTH reasons.

My cash flow is tied up with my new company right now, hence the reason I am looking at this relatively cheap mods. Otherwise, NISMO intakes and exhausts would be on top of the list.

Richie is everyone's best friend! His car needs maintenance yet he spends his money on cosmetic mods. We clearly have different philosophies. Purely cosmetic mods that has no function whatsoever is in the bottom of my list. Someone sold me a lip for $70 about a year ago. That ,so far, has been my only cosmetic mod purchase. I don't even have it anymore.

Off topic---2010 winter olympics are gonna be in Whistler right?Back on the topic, now that money is scarce, I try to spend it where it counts. Perhaps when the economy goes back up, I will look into cosmetic mods again.

Have you looked into retrofitting your headlights? That looks pretty cool too.

Mine is a 08 model and comes with new style Bi-xenon already. What do you mean by retrofit, in this case?

Speaking of headlight, what I DO want to mod, is turning those 4 amber LED markers to hyper-white ones.

I should probably opening up a new thread for that.

Something like http://www.cincitydesigns.com/ Some people swear by this company and others not. You be the judge.

Making another thread would make it easier for you to follow up.

Yeah I've heard of some not-so-good things about cincity. On the other hand, while clearcorners.com is insanely expensive, their quality seems to be pretty decent.

I am not looking at adding any features / design to the headlight. I just want to swap out those little amber LEDs to white ones.

I'll open a new thread.

Yeah I've bought quite a few things from these guys.

I just don't know the exact type of these amber lights. Sylvania don't have them listed.

Can somebody posted a larger photo of the Z with eyelids on it? 03-05 would be just fine, 06-08 would be even better!

Thanks man, this is the look I was hoping for!

Let me talk to my bodyshop guy and see if he could weld / mold them together with the hood. I am really into this pissed off, yet seamless look.

These lids don't really block your projector beam, do they?
