welcome bro, the guys here at nico are awesome, they've been a great help to me thus far , and i'm sure they'll be the same to you

anywho, if you're looking for a serious kick in the pants, then i'd say go turbo we're talking 200whp and up

but, there's plenty of options you could go with, like:-motor swap (from the basic sr20det to an LS6 corvette motor)-turbocharging -supercharging- or n/a, (cam, header, independent throttle bodies, crazy port work, lightweight drivetrain, higher compression, valvetrain upgrades, etc etc)

it all just really depends on your budget. but for now you could ditch the factory clutch fan and get some electric fans, underdrive pulley, lightweight flywheel, a cam, and do some lightening to the car.

well maybe that'll give you a lil idear of what's out there, just look over the forums on nico, you'll find a lot of great info, well im out for now _-_zzz

The amount of power you can get always depends on the budget. You can RELIABLY boost the sohc for around $1000 - $1500 depending on the deals you get. It will get you right about 200HP. But first and foremost is to get the car running properly. If you throw boost at a car that isn't running well to begin with, it will only compound the problems, thus costing you more money.

If you plan on boosting it, start preparing for it with little things. Electric fans are a must and an aluminum radiator can't hurt. Even something like relocating the battery helps. Better weight distribution and you'll most likely have to do it anyways. If the fluids haven't been changed change them out and put good stuff in like Royal Purple, Lucas, etc.

Anyways, search around, there's plenty of threads like these all over here. Welcome to NICO btw and be sure to check out the KA and KA-T forums if you haven't already.

Cams, pistons, and headwork.

The SOHC has a lot of room for improvement in flow. In fact, my machine guy prefers the SOHC head because there is a lot of material to work with.It may not be a HP monster, but you could build a torquey and reliable motor out of it.

the first thing i'd tell you to do is change the timing chain guides

I am currently building/in process of a SOHC build and swap.

I based my build on SCCA DSP rules and my budget. 1mm oversized pistons, decked the block to maximum tolerances, shaved head to maximum tolerances, match porting (+ a little more I don't want to disclose ), 5 angle valve grind, removed all emissions equipment, 2.5" cat back, and Megan test pipe.

Bone stock I was putting 122 HP to the wheels. I'm hoping to get about 150 HP to the wheels now. If I didn't have rules I would have at least put in a cam, completely ported the head, and maybe even higher compression pistons. I imagine that would put you at your intended HP.

We'll see what actually happens when I finish it up this month and put her back on the dyno.
