I was at the dealership today and had asked about aftermarket mods. Apparently if you do anything not through the dealer, it voids you warranty. Is this true? Also you can't buy any parts from anywhere expect the dealership, and can only be installed by dealer mechanics. Has anyone had any problems with exhaust systems or lowering kits where it can void the warranty? I would like to keep it since I've read there has been a lot of problems with the new coupes.

Bullsh*t. You can do whatever you want to you car. If Nissan can prove the modification broke something else on your car, then it is your fault. Otherwise it doesn't apply. Ex: You have an after market intake and your engine blows up. They cannot prove an intake did anything at all to make your engine detonate, therefor it is under warranty regardless. Ex: You put the Eibach lowering springs on your car and the shock blows out. Then thats most likely going to be your fault since the spring is a direct inhibitor of the shock. Its called the Magnuson-Moss Act.

this's been covered in other posts but i'll resummarize it for you

basically the dealer wants to charge u and arm and a leg for everything so of course they want u to do stuff thru them. Also if they screw up they have to warrantty it. If you install the wrong oil filter or put diesel in ur gas tank, of course they would not warrantty your car. That being said, the law is, unless an aftermarket part is the direct cause of the problem, they cannot deny you the warrantty. Putting HID in the car can't void suspension warrantty, etc.

Hmm, now the guy also said that if they notice something was installed wrong, that can void the entire thing. I also asked about putting in new light bulbs because of how much work is involved and it being cold still here. They wanted to know how much wattage and how hot, said that can void the whole electrical system to the lights if they ruined something. The bulbs I got for the headlights draw 55watts, and the highbeams draw 65 watts, which is what the stock bulbs draw. So basically I don't have to worry? Or should I be cautious since I have a lifetime warranty on the engine and transmission?

if the wattage ratings are the same and it fits go for it, I bought some cheap bulbs on eBay and put it in the fogs, worked great
