So I'm pretty new here guys, I think I've posted maybe once here before. I used to go to the 240 forums a bit, you might have seen me there. I'm Sam, I'm 17 years old and I have had my Versa about 2 months now. It's a Sapphire Blue SL. I love my car and I want to do some tasteful mods to it. I'm thinking about a CAI, Strut bar, maybe a cat back when it comes out. Audio will be on the way too. It goes in to get the windows tinted next week. I would also like to get some different tires. A little thicker if possible. I know the skinny tires save fuel but I would really rather run some wider tires. Any suggestions. Also, I've heard about a strut bar causing some noise due to a hardware issue. But yeah I don't want to make my Versa ricey, I just want to keep it clean and spruce it up a little. I will be getting all my stuff from VersaSpeed and I just mainly wanted to introduce myself and maybe get some feedback. Thanks.

So are you going to run the stock rim with that setup?

17x7 is the wheel he is getting. If you are just trying to run a wider tire on the stock rim 195 would be the biggest I'd go.

Maybe a 195/60/15

I haven't checked the older threads, but I believe I know what noise you are talking about. I installed my DC sports bar, and when I drove, it made a horrible thunking vibration on acceleration. I thought it was the suspension. Turns out that the rebreather assembly sits just high enough to rub the bar when the intake shifts when you step on it. No biggie, with the AEM CAI its not an issue, and you can just move it a bit if you stay with stock intake. As far as tires, I run 215/45/17s and have no problems, it got rid of that freeway "floating" feeling at >70mph.

Do you have TPMS? If so, did your 215/45/17s cause that to malfunction?

Can it be reset if I were to upgrade my tires to 215/45/17s?

Also, did you get an increase or decrease in MPG?

I just bought my 07 SL CVT and I want to upgrade it with the swaybar, the air intake and tires... I think the sway bar is smart to increase handling...

The air intake per the AEM site, claims to increase power throughout acceleration and increase MPG on the highway... is that true?

As for the floating feeling at 70+ I TOTALLY NOTICED THAT the first time I took it out. I'm glad you said that in your post, because I am new to the car mod scene and didn't really know how to describe it. I thought maybe it was becase of the length of the car compared to my old one..

Check ya later. P

The size of the tires doesn't really have too much of a bearing on the TPMS working or not. It doesn't throw codes for over-inflation, just for failure and under-inflation. However, the Nissan wheel sensors are not compatible with all rims, so you may need to get new TPMS sensors if you get new rims. They ARE available... tirerack shows them as an option any time you buy a wheel and tire package on a TPMS equipped car.

I can't tell too much about mpg. I did all of my mods within 3 or 4 weeks of buying the car, so I only ran about 2 tanks through it. I am getting around 26-27, and I drive semi-agressive and a lot of hills. That floating feeling is caused by the ten speed tires that come stock. I imagine a suspension drop would help as well, that may be next for me. As far as TPMS, EV is exactly right, I just live with the light and I think this weekend, the light is getting disconnected. There is a whole thread about TPMS and how it hardly ever works properly. Although my Ford Explorer has it, and I have had no problems. The intake makes a difference, its "seems" to accelerate faster, but it may be psychological, it is a LOT louder and meaner sounding, which may make it seem like its going faster. I remember seeing a dyno posted for it, didn't seem to be significantly different.Congrats on your new car, it makes driving to work a tiny bit better, and has given me something to do.

TPMS actually works well in newer Versas. It's just the original production Vs that had problems, because of defective sensors and BCMs.

The hardware issue for the strut tower brace was due to the length of the bolts that were supplied from the manufacturer. The noise was due to the bolts interfering with the rotation of the Strut mounting bearing. Shorter grade 8 bolts from the local hardware store corrected the issue.
