So one of my goals for the car this summer is to get the shifter back in the stock location, so I can use my factory trim piece.. The shift pattern with my short throw should easily allow it to be inside the stock trim piece..

Anyway, the shifter needs to be about 3 or 4 inches longer, and go forward and to the right a little bit.. essentially when its in 1st gear, thats where it needs to sit when its in neutral.. Obviously lengthening it isnt an issue, but how do you think I should make it go to the side...

the shift rod is removable from the shifter assembly.. Id like to make any modifications to the shifter below the console level so I have a nice piece of chrome coming out of the boot and not make it look like a hack job. I have thought about doing a gated shifter (ferrari style) for it..

Heres what shifter I have.

Just cut off the current shifter arm and weld on a rod that is bent to the position you want. The bends have minimal effect on the feel, you'll get a bit of a "drop" sensation as you move farther from center. Lengthening the rod will have a much greater effect.

You could of course modify the tunnel with an air hammer so the trans in where it should be...
